Pressing Programs we have Games featuring Jawbreaker and Solitaire, Active Sync, a basic Calculator (too bad it will not do conversions), a program called Experience HP iPAQ that runs a little demo, File Explorer, Find, HP Task Switcher, Internet Explorer, MSN Messenger, Pocket Excel, Pocket MSN, Pocket Word (with a spell checker) and Tasks. A basic line up, a good starting point for anyone. Someone experienced will add what he or she likes; someone new will learn what he or she wants.

Pressing Settings gives us the same icons that have been around before but there is one addition…HP Profiles. One stop shopping (so to speak) so you can set up your alerts sound volume, backlight settings on battery power and power off setting if the unit is left unattended. In addition, there is a drop down where there are five pre-defined levels of use. You can adjust these and rename them if you want. This is an excellent idea for someone who has a need to have a variety of settings. All the other icons have the same setup as the older units.

The only disappointing feature is when you press on Memory. It was almost a shock to see Total Main Memory: 27.26 MB. Remembering back to my 3630 with 32 MB, I couldn’t wait to get an expansion card to have additional memory. An SD card is a MUST HAVE if you plan on doing anything with this device. I sure hope the software developers keep this in mind when they are writing software…making sure their programs can run off an expansion card.

Pressing on Screen gives us the long awaited option for Portrait/Landscape…and it not just landscape, it’s landscape for left or right-handed people. HP, good option!! My brother, who is left-handed, will be very happy! You have the Align Screen, set Clear Type and an additional feature is the ability to change your default text size. This is another terrific feature!
