Mobility Today 8 Years Old
By David Ciccone, posted Monday, Mar. 31st, 2008
Reader Comments: 32
On April 2, 2008 Mobility Today will have reached another milestone which we never could have imagined. We have been around for now eight years! Many of the members of this site new or old have either learned a thing or two or passed some sort of knowledge to each other. As I reflect back the past 8 years running this site I think about the great things I have learned from this community and the great friends I have made. This community is different than many other enthusiast sites. All of you are not the typical chatters and gossup'ers but the people who come to Mobility Today for answers and support. You also have the confidence in our reviews that they are fair and unbiased! The last 8 years our site has had over 86 million visitors which still visit today! We have posted over 12,839 news stories and over 200+ reviews including over 4 million views of our video reviews. Today we celebrate our 8 years on the World Wide Web !
I want to thank each and everyone who has supported this site including Steve, Laura, Patrick, Jerry, Mickey, Chris and Dave. Without each and every one of you we wouldn't been able to provide such an inviting and informative community. We definitely have something special here, something I value tremendously. Also a special "Thank You" goes out to all the community members who have visited the site.
Most importantly, I would like to thank my wife Lisa for giving me the time needed to run a site like this. Without my wife this would have never had happened. As she said to me 8 years ago, "You have my 100% support."
In celebration I decided to go a bit crazy and give EVERYONE a huge 10% off of our entire Hardware Store by using code HAPPY8
For those who would like to win a HTC TYTN II then leave a comment or video on why you enjoy Mobility Today to try to win the device! I can tell you those who put more effort will have a better chance to win!
So what are you waiting for!!! Get your camera and place your link in the comments!!

Thank you so much for the contest, Dave!

I forgot to upload and post the Mobility Today 8th Birthday song. Sorry about my wife's loudness in the background... But, it's just for fun.
Here's the URL: http://www.diskd.com/filelist.php?uploadId=59303397348178079647355517

I left some comments ealier, but I wanted to add to them and post my video entry: http://www.youtube.com/v/rK0ZHJqBxks
I have Mobility Today RSS'd and book marked on my PC as well as my Pocket PC. I always look forward to the pod casts. They are my favorite aspect of the site. I really enjoy listening to the pod casts with Dave, Steve, Jerry, Matt and Chris. Each one of you takes a different angle with the same subject to give the listener a lot to think about.
I appreciate the tips, tricks and knowledge that everyone shares on the site. I am especially pleased about the free software mentioned, too! I don’t have much of a gadget budget but am able to do almost everything that I want to do regardless.
Everyone is very helpful as well as knowledgeable on the forums. I used to Google for solutions, but I find it’s a waste of time when compared with the depth of knowledge of everyone. Laura and everyone else are very quick on the turn-around, too. I have learned more about my devices from the forum than anywhere else.
I absolutely love watching the video reviews of the cutting-edge gadgets! I really like your no-nonsense approach. But, I have to say that I envy you guys…
And the contests that you sponsor; you guys give away more really good stuff than any of the other sites.
It’s somewhat surprising (and yet I think it really isn’t) that the site is still around. I guess it’s only another testament to your great work!!! Here’s to another 8, no wait, 80 years!

I enjoy MT because you guys have a way of getting me going. I know where you're coming from, but sometimes I get so aggravated with your show that I have to turn it off. Interestingly enough, I normally listen to it while I'm cutting my lawn (using an Apple Shuffle no less!). Keep up the great work.

Happy birthday MT! I stumbled upon here googling "HP 6515 Tom Tom". Been stuck ever since. Thanks for the great time. Enjoy the podcast.
On another note. It looks like we are going to finally get what we have been waiting for. M$ is growing in the Consumer friendly UI Department. $500m gets you Danger , the maker of sidekick!

Sitting in DIA listening to the show. I love the show because it reminds me of how much I love my 300$ E51. go S60. Actually I'm thinking if the 3g iphone is cheap enough, around 400$ and the plan prices stick, I'll drop S60 and T-mob. oh, I also like to get industry news. I post on a private VC/R&D blog at work. I must say when I have a lot of podcasts backlogged your show usually ends up at the top.

Happy Birthday Mobility Today!
I like Mobility Today for the instant access to tech information that may eventually show up in the old-school media channels a day or two later. This access to information helps me in the following ways: 1) I have learned marketing from an industry perpective - to see what works and what does not (most notable case is Apple that not only generates sales, but creates desire); 2) The information I gain from Mobility Today helps me suggest noteworthy items to my IT Department for implementation consideration to give my company a possible advantage in computing and communications over our competitors - and ultimately better service to our clients; 3) As a father of homeschooled children, I gain access to information that allows me to be a better educator and find tools/gadgets/computers that enrich my children's learning experience and make the teaching/learning process fun.
Thank you for helping to make me a better Engineer and Dad.

A big Congratulations to Dave and the entire Mobility Today team! Whether it was my iPaq3675, or iPaq 5550, Mpx220 and now my Tilt - this is the first place I look for news. Secretly look for iPhone stuff too (for family). Makes me look smarter. ;-)
Thank you to Lisa too - I know how much time and effort it takes to run even a small site.
Looking forward to the future with Mobility Today.

Sorry I have yet to post on this until now. Congrats to Dave and to the entire Mobility Today community. I'm sure everyone agrees that this is the best mobility community on the net and we'll continue to be into the future.
Happy 8th!

Congratulations on eight years Dave. Love the site as well as the podcasts. Hopefully the podcasts can get out a little more frequently...most of your comments on the sorry state of Windows Mobile are so spot-on it's funny. I too have a love/hate relationship with Windows Mobile.
Thanks for the great work.

Sorry - almost missed this - I was travelling for a few days this week - which is not something I usually do. Congratulations Dave - on the 8th birthday of your site. You've done a great job.

It is hard to believe that I have been coming to this site at least weekly, most of the time daily, since 2001. This site is run by great people who obviously enjoy what they are doing. I have learned so much here. It is amazing how far our devices have come in that time. My xv6800 is sooo much more powerful than my iPaq 3600. I am still enjoying the Sansa I won from this site. You're great Dave, keep it up...
Thanks,
Bob
BTW, I do not need the TYTN so do not include me in the contest.

Hey All!
First off a big big Congratulations to you guys! I know how huge a milestone this is and all of you'll deserve a nice pat on your backs! I've been visiting mobilitytoday since ages. It's at the top of the list in my RSS reader! Although I'm not a big contributor in terms of comments, as I am hard pressed for time, I certainly read the articles and reviews everytime new content is available!
Love all the reviews and I must say, I have purchased dozens of stuff mainly after reading about them here! Thanks to Dave for his excellent reviews and especially all Windows Mobile related items. I am using a WinMo device and hence its really the most important topic to me as of now!
Cheers and Congrats once again to the entire team!
I have uploaded a small vid to show you guys just how powerful your site is. You'll impart information even to someone who is thousands of miles away on a crappy connection! :D

Cheers!

Congrats Dave. It is always nice to see someone you like succeed in the matter you have. I wish you many more years of success. Both you and Mickey have helped me and taught me so much over the past year. Please continue what you do in helping people understand the crazy wireless industry. In regards to your contest I hope I win because I have the worst luck and never win anything. Also keep the podcast coming.

Much of life is about the communities you belong to. The www has given the opportunity for e-communities such as yours Dave, which is just great. I still come here when I have a problem - and sometimes a solution!
Some of the fixes I have found here (eg enabling the use of an SDHC card) are so incredibly useful. I thank also all of those contributors that have helped me.
I wonder if the likes of HP and many others appreciate how this site has helped boost their sales over the last few years?
Best wishes....... and please keep going!

Dave, first and foremost I'd like to congratulate you. Secondly, I really do credit your site for bringing about my love of PPC's. This site is what first got my started with my old iPAQ and now I just can't wait for the next bigger and better device to come out. Got my sister hooked up with the Tilt over the weekend and promptly put on a cooked ROM for her. Can't thank you enough.

Congrats everyone. I actually started out with my first Pocket PC back in 2003 reading most of your stuff via Avantgo where it is still listed as Dave's Ipaq. I really enjoy all your podcasts and your forums. I look forward to 8 more years!

Its an honour to be involved with this great site. You were the first place I found when I bought my first pocket pc all those years ago and you taught me so much. Now I am part of it I just hope I can give something back. Happy birthday Dave and the team you all deserve a huge pat on the back!!!!

8 years! Congrats!!!! For old times sake I used www.davesipaq.com and was redirected here. :)
We've come a long way since the 3600 series.

Happy 8th Birthday, Mobility Today! You guys have ALWAYS helped me with my problems and there have been all too many!
I especially enjoy listening to your podcasts. I've literally listened to every one of them and really do look forward to them. I can't afford as many gadgets as you guys can so I guess I'm living vicariously through your experiences. I RSS feed your site all day long!
Please enter me into the contest. I’ve checked out the specs for the HTC TYTN II and watched Dave’s video and it is quite a nice machine. Thanks very much for offering the contest!
Good luck in the coming years although I don’t really think you’ll need it…
An avid fan,
Gene
