First thing to remember - we are not "porting" PI for WM to the iPhone. We are designing it from scratch taking the years of knowledge in what users like and need and applying that to a plan. Plan doesn't mean 1.0 has everything we know it needs. The key point, though is that this is not a WinMobile developer learning how to program on the iPhone.

Its an experienced Cocoa developer writing PI for the iPhone working closely with me - its actually one of my best friends whom I've been wanting to work together with for years.

We are *very* conscious that what works on WM does not necessarily mean that it works on the iPhone. Look at our BlackBerry PI - its designed with BlackBerry users as our focus. Its not a WM app ported to the BB. Its got elements and style from PI for WM, but it is its own creation suited to the BB perfectly.

We don't have a real track record of bringing our apps from WM to other platforms yet besides Note2Self. Note2Self on WM is good, on BB its not that good, but on the iPhone its the best thing out there. Take a look. PI for WM is awesome, PI for BB is really good, and I think PI for the iPhone will be very good as well.

The key is not to port, but to design and develop for that platform to its strengths. And that is exactly what we are doing.
@interstink - Pocket Informant doesn't load with a Splash screen on WM, so I would think the same on the iPhone. Agenda One is ok, it has been a while since I tried it. One of the main reasons that I like PI is because it has a nice optimized touch mode that works great on my Touch.

@Jerry - Yeah, I don't think the first version will be better than the WM version, but it still will be a great app for the iPhone. I am sure it will take a few iterations of the app to bring it up to par with the WM counterpart. I'm a programmer and possibly a future developer. :)
Pocket Informant has become very bloated over the years, and on my OLD Treo I ended up switching to Agenda One. We do need a more extensive calendar for the iPhone, and an all-in-one contact/calendar/tasks/notes/PHONE application would be very nice! NO SPLASH SCREEN!!! I just hate apps that load a splash screen before opening. :)
mHerald,

It depends. Remember, iPhone development is a whole new ballgame. From a developer perspective, it will take a couple of iterations of product cycles before they truly "get it".
Jerry, you don't think it will be good on the iPhone?
"Pocket Informant is awesome on WM, so it should be awesome on the iPhone too!"

Not necessarily so.
Pocket Informant is awesome on WM, so it should be awesome on the iPhone too!
I've used PI on Windows Mobile for years, it's a very good app. Looking forward to seeing the port on the iPhone.
Anything less would be quite dissapointing. This looks to be a very finished and polished offering unlike some of the titles I've tried out.
For a 1.0 release the Bloomberg stock app has set the standard IMO and this looks to be right there with it. They can take their time cause I'd rather it done right with some of the features than to have all the features and it looks and feels like a homemade project.
That is what I expect from these guys
