MedQuist Releases PhysAssist IQ Enterprise

MedQuist announced the release of PhysAssist IQ Enterprise, an on-premise solution that enables physicians and medical caregivers to use a variety of popular personal digital assistant (PDA) devices to capture patient-related data and dictation. More than 40 different PDA models have been certified to work with the PhysAssist IQ Enterprise software, using either the PocketPC or Palm OS platforms. This allows the users to select the PDA device that best suits their specific needs.

“This application significantly enhances the quality of patient care while reducing errors. A physician — or other caregiver — can now have a list of patients in the palm of their hand and can display that list based on their preferences,” says Rob Johnson, product manager for PhysAssist IQ. “During or immediately after the point of care, they can dictate their findings while the information is still fresh in their minds. And because of the interface, there’s no need to re-enter any patient identifier or demographic data.”

Patient demographic data is obtained by an interface with physician or hospital information systems. Users simply select the appropriate patient from a list on their PDA and select “record” to dictate. PhysAssist IQ operates like a hand-held dictation device, allowing the originator to fast forward and rewind through dictation, as well as hold dictation on the unit to complete at a later time. The user can also select a work type for the dictation and assign a STAT note for priority transcription.

The PhysAssist IQ synchronization process can be performed through a wireless connection or by inserting a multimedia memory card (MMC) into a MMC reader on the computer. In a wireless environment, PhysAssist IQ can send completed dictation, as well as obtain any new or updated patient information, at predetermined times or each time a dictation has been completed.

One of the key advantages of PhysAssist IQ is that the application, as well as patient demographic and dictation data, is stored on the PDA’s MMC card. If a PDA malfunctions, the MMC card can simply be inserted into another PDA and the physician or caregiver can continue without any loss of data or dictation.

DeLorme Earthmate — A GPS Solution Designed From The Ground Up!

In the handheld version, there were several improvements. The biggest improvement for me was the ability to reverse a route, a feature that was desperately needed and created for the 2005 version. Thank you DeLorme! Creating a route using a contact, as a route start (or finish), was another added feature that I found very useful. There were changes made in how waypoints could be displayed and the search options were vastly improved. To me, the search option was significantly faster than in previous versions! Of course the easy to read turn directions as well as that little lady in my iPAQ made following a new route effortless.

An Earthmate GPS with Street Atlas USA 2005 is a great combination providing you with a great amount of flexibility to suit your specific needs for travel. After using the Earthmate for two months traveling over 3500 miles on several trips, I can tell you that it performed in an extraordinary fashion. Whether it was with my iPAQ or my laptop, the unit was flawless in operation.

For the user that wants the flexibility of using Bluetooth with your iPAQ and the ability to use your non-bluetooth laptop as well, then Earthmate GPS with the DeLorme Bluetooth-capable Earthmate PowerPack is an outstanding choice!

Small form factor

Excellent battery life

Multiple Power Sources

Street Atlas USA 2005 is incredible!

HP iPAQ h6300

It is Monday July 26th at 6:00am in the morning and my new iPAQ h6300 alarm goes off as I hit the snooze for another 15 minutes. Before I knew it my alarm went off again and I was delighted to lay comfortably in my bed, as I make a connection via wirelessly on my 802.11 network. I immediately connect into my corporate network via VPN and log into my Microsoft Exchange email. Seeing that my assistant made a change to my Power Point presentation, I download the presentation and opened it in the ClearView Presentation software bundled in my iPAQ h6300 in which I noticed my assistant spelled the customer name wrong and made the change. I hop out of bed and jump into the shower, get dressed and I am off to my work. As I am driving to work I turn on my iPAQ h6300 and log into AOL Instant Messenger which is bundled with the unit and send an instant message to my assistant telling her about the mistake and that I made the change and not to worry. Since I didn’t need to go to my office I drove directly to my customer’s location. I grabbed my portable projector which works with my iPAQ and was ready to make my presentation for the customer. During my presentation with the customer they had requested some literature on some products I spoke about during my presentation and told me they would make a decision once they received the literature. After leaving the customers site I got into my car and started to respond to their request immediately. Since I have all my product literature saved as a PDF I was able to connect via GSM/GPRS on T-Mobile’s network and log into my corporate email. I typed my message using the attachable keyboard supplied with my iPAQ h6300 and attach the PDF and sent it off to the customer. Does this sound more like how you envision working? Well now you can!

The iPAQ h6300 is probably one of the most advanced Pocket PC phones available in the market today. Since I have been using this iPAQ for some time I was able to put it through the paces and really get a feel of the unit. In our review we will go over four different elements of this phone such as design, wireless definitions, software included, and functionality.

The iPAQ h6300 is comparable to an iPAQ h2215 in size. The unit has some new characteristics such as as (1) Receiver (2) GSM/GPRS LED indicator (3) Bluetooth LED Indicator (4) WLAN LED Indicator (5) Power Button with Charging LED. The top of the iPAQ no longer features the traditional SD or CF slot in which the traditional iPAQ owners are used to. While traveling in my car at night I liked the placement of the LED indicator lights showing me which connection I was using such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or GSM/GPRS. HP has done a fabulous job with providing a smart data connection. What this means is that if you are in your house and running a wireless network your iPAQ will not connect to the GSM connection but will utilize your WLAN. Once you leave your house your iPAQ will notice you left a WLAN connection and switch to the T-Mobile GSM connection. Home network users make sure to encrypt your wireless network since any iPAQ h6300 user walking by will auto detect your network and be stealing some bandwidth. A word of advice for all, encrypt your wireless network.

Spb Software House Updates Spb Diary

Spb Software House has released a new version of Spb Diary. Spb Diary is an instant Pocket PC organizer that provides tab-based Today plug-in for calendar, contacts and tasks. The new version 1.5 of Spb Diary also provides a separate tab for working with notes. Another new feature is integration with Spb Weather. Spb Diary 1.5 is a free upgrade for registered Spb Diary users.

Notes is one of the natural parts of PIM data. Microsoft ActiveSync provides synchronization for notes between Microsoft Outlook on desktop PC side and Notes files on the Pocket PC side. Spb Diary provides access to main PIM data from the Today screen and with this new version you can use notes from your Today screen as well.

The new tab for working with notes provides access to the most frequently used operations in just one or two taps View the list of all notes grouped by folder View a note on the Today screen Open a note for editing Create a new note in some folder Move a note to another folder Rename a note Sorting and grouping Fast searching

The Today screen is unique to Pocket PC devices — there is nothing like it on desktop PCs. The “desktop” screen on your PC is designed to launch frequently used programs while the Today screen on Pocket PC provides access to frequently used data. This difference exists because of the differences between using Pocket PC and desktop PC devices. A desktop PC is used for hours at a time while Pocket PCs are used several times for a few minutes only. When you pull your Pocket PC out of your pocket you usually want to see or enter some data. The Today screen was designed to be shown by default and to provide access to at least 80% of what you want to see when you turn your Pocket PC on.

The first Spb Pocket PC Survey showed that 85% of all Pocket PC users use their Pocket PC as an organizer. This is the single most popular use for Pocket PC users. However, standard Pocket PC tools for handling PIM data have turned out to be underwhelming at best. This is especially true when considering the most important part — PIM plug-ins for the Today screen.

Spb Diary is a powerful replacement for the standard PIM Today plug-ins that allows access to PIM data right from the Today screen — immediately when you take your Pocket PC out of your pocket. The new version of Spb Diary adds support for notes. According to the results of Spb Pocket PC Survey, more than a half of all Pocket PC users prefer to synchronize notes ( coming fifth in importance after contacts, calendar, tasks, and files), and that means that notes are important for Pocket PC users. Adding the notes tab is a logical improvement for Spb Diary, and makes working with PIM data even more comfortable.

Besides notes support the new version of Spb Diary offers another innovative feature — integration with Spb Weather. Usability testing has shown that it is really helpful to see the weather forecast for a given day on your calendar right near appointments scheduled for the same date. A typical scenario is to choose a date for a picnic or a walk right within Spb Diary, which now takes the weather forecast into account.

You can download a free trial version that works for 15 days from the day of installation. The registered version costs $14.95.
