Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: AZ Posts: 57 | Samsung i730 likely to be released in mid-March Submitted by AdamaDBrown Friday, February 25, 2005 Recent conversations with Samsung have resulted in strong hints on the part of the company’s representatives that Samsung intends to announce the release of the i730 PocketPC phone at the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association trade show in mid-March. This is consistent with earlier reports we’ve heard concerning a possible mid-to-late March release date for the i730 on Verizon Wireless. __________________ |

Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: AZ Posts: 57 | Samsung to intro the i730 next month “Can we say how excited we were when we first peeped the i730, Samsung’s new EV-DO capable Pocket PC Phone? We thought we’d finally found what we were looking for—the i730 is only slightly larger than the Treo 650 and sports a 2.8-inch QVGA (240×320) 65,000 color touch screen, 64MB RAM, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard—but then we played around with it. Yeah, the screen is nice, and the prospect of having EV-DO on a phone like this really, really, really appeals to us, but that slide-out keyboard (which is one of the big selling points) just wasn’t cutting it for us (typing on it wasn’t pleasant). Anyway, not that we care as much as we used to, but apparently the i730 is going to be launched at the big CTIA wireless trade show in March, with Verizon all but guaranteed to be the carrier (it really couldn’t be anybody else now, could it?).” Posted by: NewsGuy – on Saturday, February 26, 2005 – 07:25 PM __________________ |

Join Date: Feb 2005 Posts: 10 | Okay folks……I did a little bit of surfing on the net tonight and I found this lovely little information. The post is kinda old but if you go to the last paragraph and follow the instructions…..you will have all the info you need on the i730 EXCEPT a release date. In regards to the question of if it is going to be a verizon phone my guess is that it will be. Currently verizon is the only US carrier of EVDO data and the user manual on the FCC website has EVDO functionality all over it. The only other posiblity would be Sprint, but they do not have EVDO right now. Hard to say….but I thought it was worth posting! I think I will be taking advantage of my cell insurance if this phone comes out soon! http://msmobiles.com/mobile/news.php?id=3436 Jake |

Maybe everyone just got tired of projecting a release date but don’t you think it still looks like it should be a hot phone if Verizon releases it? I’m not sure about any of these mini-keyboards. I was playing with a Treo yesterday and decided I would have thrown it out after a week if I’d owned it (particularly with no Graffiti capability). Has anyone found that you “get used to these keyboards” or are they a complete waste of time? Regardless, the i730 still looks like a winner and with a solid manufacturer like Samsung, everything will probably work! The 700 is a good product and we need continued reliability in these products. |

It looks like the reps are being trained now with a possible release date of late June. Just thought I would put my 2 cents worth in! Jake |

Everytime I wanted to add a new app to the i700 with its 64M of memory I had to take something else off. One the other hand, additional capabilities beyond those announced are rumored to be in the works perhaps as future firmware upgrades. Maybe supporting those features will force a bump to 128M! In the meantime, I seem to have gotten my XV6600 in a reasonably stable configuration for now. And it was way too much work __________________ Last edited by chasrimpo : 05-30-2005 at 09:45 AM. |

Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Westport, CT Posts: 66 | The manager of my VZW store said he saw a Verizon representative a few days ago CARRYING the SAMSUNG i730. I said, “Oh, that’s good news!” He said, “No it isn’t. If he’s still got his, Verizon’s testing may have a long way to go.” He then gave me some insight into their test procedure. The phone part of that test unit he saw was turned off, with the data part turned on. They evidently isolate the major functions, then test them together. So he’s guessing they’re in the middle of that (low) level of testing. The resutls then filter up the several-leveled chain of command. Sounds Byzantine to me, but who am I. |
