Today, owners of Xiaomi, Poco, and Redmi smartphones, all brands belonging to the Chinese conglomerate, faced a problem with device boot loops which they believe were caused by a software update. The issue predominantly affects devices operating on MIUI and HyperOS. This problem is corroborated by numerous posts on topic-focused forums and the Xiaomi community.
The Problem
The problem manifests as an infinite boot loop, where, instead of the operating system starting up correctly, the smartphone boots into recovery mode, which is typically used to fix software issues. The loop persists even in safe mode. Currently, the only known solution is to perform a factory reset, which would result in complete data loss.
Company Statement
Xiaomi Russia addressed the issue, stating, “We are already working on a problem solution. We apologize for the inconvenience. If urgent device recovery is needed, a factory reset with full data loss can be performed”. The statement was posted on the Xiaomi.Russia community page on the social network VKontakte. Cause and Extent of The Problem
As of now, the exact cause and extent of Xiaomi’s smartphone reboot problem is still unknown. However, many users speculate that the glitch followed an update to the system component called SystemUI Plugin.
