Quick question. Since your unit came without any GPS software how is the performance (speed) of your 6515 after a hard and soft reset?

I just got a blast-o gram email from TomTom. I wonder if this applies to us or not? I’d sure like to know how to get the FULL version and all maps!!! (still confused)

http://www.tomtom.com/shop/upgrade.us.php?action=pda

“How can I upgrade TomTom Navigator 2004 to TomTom Navigator 5? How can I upgrade my TomTom GO with the new maps and software? Please follow the upgrade link on the TomTom.com homepage or the link at the bottom of this email to be directed to the Upgrade page. On the Upgrade page you can enter your address information and product code(s). Once your eligibility has been approved you will have the ability to order the upgrade through our online web store. That is all there is to it. You do not need to send us your old CD-ROMs. You do not need to send us a proof of purchase unless you have not activated your product (or purchased a product that does not require activation) and made your purchase after March 15th, 2005. The approval process can take up to 3 to 5 business days. After your upgrade has been approved you will receive an email with your upgrade code. Please return to the upgrade page, enter your upgrade code and payment information to initiate the order. What will it cost? Customers who purchased/activated their product between March 15, 2005 and July 27, 2005, can choose to receive the upgrade CD ROM set for free; TomTom GO users can opt to receive their maps on a 1 GB SD card for $99.99 (excluding shipping and handling costs). Customers who purchased/activated their product before March 15, 2005 and after July 27th, 2005 can choose to receive the upgrade CD ROM set for $49.99, TomTom GO users can opt to receive their maps on a 1 GB SD card for $149.99 (excluding shipping and handling costs). Can I upgrade more than one TomTom Navigator 2004 product on one order? You can upgrade all of your TomTom GO and Navigator 2004 products in one online order provided you have individual product codes for each of your upgrades. Until when can I upgrade my TomTom GO and Navigator 2004 maps? This upgrade offer is valid until September 30, 2005. Where can I find my TomTom GO or Navigator 2004 product code? The TomTom GO and Navigator 2004 product codes are located on the back of the paper sleeve containing CD 1 of the CD set included in your product package. Your product code is a 15-digit alphanumeric code on a small sticker on the back of the CD sleeve. I have Maps of Western Europe; can I upgrade these as part of the offer?

The upgrade for TomTom GO and Navigator 2004 is valid only for one product code purchase. If you originally bought Navigator 2004 with maps of US/Canada, then your upgrade offer is valid only for upgrading the US and Canada maps. If you bought the Maps of Western Europe as an accessory, then the Maps of Western Europe are not included in the upgrade offer.”

http://www.tomtom.com/gpsnavigation/ (U.S. still says “available soon”)

People are also complaing that v5 is much slower then the bundled v4 that comes pre-installed on some UK models.

no upgrade for me…. what a shame. i used it this weekend in New York and it worked fine. They were so close to a good thing. it’s a shame customer support screws this product out of favor.

I could not find the product code. That was the first time I set it up and tried to use the product as-is in the device and it would not work. After a hard reset and doing the update BEFORE firing it up, it took the map and did not make me activate it (ie, did not need the product code)

I know that some people are using Pharos ostia as a source for maps. I might suggest www.mapopolis.com I haven’t had a good chance to look sit over for the HP but I think it would work.

ARGH – I can not download a new city from the IPAQ or TomTom Plus service.

I have a UK 6515 with the 5.1 update, it works fine with free map, but I’m going on holiday tomorrow and thought I would get the map of the area. On the Ipaq it goes through the motions then says you can not yet download from the ipaq and have to do it from the web site. I try on the web site and get the message “You cannot use Test service offer details with your current device software”. Has anyone actually managed to purchased and download an additional map?

When I first got this iPAQ the first thing I did was install the TomTom v5 upgrade. I then ran TomTom and it let me download one free map. Recently I did HARD reset. (started from scratch) I dont want to load the v5 upgrade because I heard v4 is quicker. Maybe I need to delete the previous SD map data. (we’ll see) TomTom 4.x now says

“Your device code is: XXXXX XXXXX Please visitt http://www.ttcode.com to get an activation code for this device”

I followed this site and it says my code is not valid ! !! !!!

It’s getting more confusing by the minute. TomTom is so slick and has the potential be great. Why cant this stuff “just work”!? I’d like to get the whole of North America if I could. I’d like to use “the best” possible GPS software. I’m fairly happy with Navigon but it’s kind of slow until I get the Main memory upgraded from pocketpctechs http://www.tomtom.com/gpsnavigation STILL says “Available soon”

I did the same thing you did the first time I set it up with no upgrade. It gives you the DEVICE code. The first code it asks for though is the PRODUCT code. Looking at the right side, it looks like it will as for the device code next after the product code.

i have emailed tech support so many times and they just do not respond. my emails on their site show my status as unresolved. these guys. (HP) should have chosen a company that is alittle more civil and smart enough to anticipate the future if they launch this device. I hope not, but i am afraid that this device will not last becuase it frankly does not have any support. ,y smt5600 (c500) still is my favorite!!!

ok. i just spoke to the US rep for TOMTOM. finally! very interesting what he said. first of all, the UK version (which is available from expansys) is the one that works with tomtom 5.0. you purchase the software for about 149.00 from mobile planet. JUST THE SOFTWARE… and it should overwrite the one you have on the phone. it also allows you to use european maps if you want them as well. it appears (or so he said) that the software or rather the map you get when you sign up with the 6515 is actually just a demo of sorts. if you want the correct one you need to purchase the above software. WHATEVER….. i will try it because i travel alot! let you know later!!!

looking forward to a review………..

So what happens when you buy the US version do we have to buy a different set of maps as well? $149 isn’t bad if you get the whole US and it works properly.

Yeah, I”m ready to know if we should plan on using the 5.1 upgrade
http://www.tomtom.com/support/right…hp?p_faqid=3361 and then buy “discounted” maps

http://www.tomtom.com/gpsnavigation/ (U.S. still says “available soon”)

or Buy the whole U.S. package for $149 like dean56 says above (looking forward to finding out what that includes!) Which one will be cheaper and run smoother?

As another twist, if we DO end up going with the 5.1 upgrade, I wonder how we can install it if we’ve ripped the bundled 4.x from the extended rom? Hopefully “someone” can create the original 4.1 cab so it’s handy and ready to go.

Wow, this thread is over 3000! (most popular 6500) That says a lot about how important it is for TomTom to set us all straight.

I have a friend who sells GPS software – I will stop by his office to try out iGuidance v.2.1.1 (I have v.2.1 and it cannot find the GPS on COM7). Perhaps the new version would work. He also have TomTom 5 US version – perhaps I can get him to sell me at a lower price…
