Join Date: May 2005 Posts: 21 | Looking for input on new iPAQ purchase New here so hello to everyone. I am looking to upgrade to a new PDA. I am trying to decide between the hx3715 and the hx2755. I am currently using a h5555 at work. Things I will use the PPC for are: 1. I will use the basic MS software mostly phone book, calander and notes. Minor use of Excel and Word. 2. Wifi and bluetooth useage. 3. Email 4. Watching video. 5. I would want to be able to play PPC game software. 6. I think good battery life is important in a PPC. 7. A built in camera is not a deal breaker other things are more important. 8. Some web page access. I like the hx3715’s long battery life but I am concerned I may hit the limit of the unit’s processor and memory compared to the hx2755. I haven’t had the h5555 at work that long and it doesn’t leave work so I haven’t been able to do things with it that I would do with my one of my own to have a good feel of how well the processor speed and lower memory would work for me. I can add missing media software to the hx2755 so it doesn’t really have to come with the unit. Thanks for any input. |

| Registered User Join Date: May 2004 Posts: 254 | Personally, If this is going to be a business machine (bought by your work?) then i would go 2750. Trading the camera for a fingerprint scanner should sell just about any procurement officer. In comparing the 2 ipaqs you will get consumer range IR on the 3700 (much better IR range if you want to use it as a remote), and you’ll get dual memory card slopts on the 2750. The XScale in the 2750 is faster than the Samsung in the 3700, but I really don’t think it would be that noticeable in day to day operations (and both should be quite a bit snappier than a 5550). |

I like the one I have…memory was a major reason for that unit. BUT……you should consider the 4700. Personal machine purchase and procurement officer=wife. I was reading here how HP is going to be offering an upgrade to the new mobile operating system on some of the iPAQ’s. The hx3715 wasn’t one of them but the hx2750 was on the list. | |

Well the wife didn’t react badly when I talked about spending $400-$450 on a pocketpc. A 4700 is going to be $100+ more. Now don’t get me wrong a vga screen would be nice but I would feel guilty getting a pocketpc that has a 640×480 screen while she has a 320×240. Later when the vga models are less expensive maybe we could upgrade both. The 4700 also has shorter battery life. I’m concerned the shorter battery time may become a problem. I was checking prices again on the 2750 and the 4700 and there isn’t much difference in price now. $447 verses $497 without shipping. A few questions on the 4700: 1. Anyone had any problems having only 64m for the sdram? 2. How’s your battery life been on the 4700? The reviews I read talk about 4+ hours. 3. Join Date: May 2004 Location: Saratoga, California Posts: 1,647 | So I LOVE my 4700 – I make good use of IPAQ FILE STORE and sorage cards, so I haven’t ran out of memory amd my 4700 is well loaded. I get about 3 hours of battery, with WiFi and bluetooth on. Longer battery life 4700 1. Less memory 2. VGA screen 3. Larger size Unless I missed something eveything else is the same. Unless there are some software or hardware items that work with one and not the other. Cost difference is less than when I first looked at them. | |

Windows Mobile 5 will no longer use RAM for storage. All storage on the device will be handled by the File Store (hence the new devices huge file stores). So after OS requirements you should have about 55MB floating around solely designed for running applications. That being said I love my 2750. I just don’t think RAM is going to be a big deal with the new OS until software comes out that fully utilizes lots of RAM. | |

Well I played with a 4700 and it was nice. Using the VGA screen then looking at a QVGA it’s hard not to want the VGA. Assuming I don’t run into any problems with 64MB instead of 128MB the 4700 would be a nice unit. It’s slower than the 2750 but I assume without a side by side I won’t notice it. | |
