howdy!

Hey folks. A friend very kindly gave me his old compaq ipaq 3630 today and I’ve been playing around with it most of the day. And after a few queries I was told to check your forum (which I’m glad I did). So, anyway, I was wondering if maybe there’s some kind folks that might be able to recommend some software for me. Maybe a game or 2…I know my ipaq isn’t wifi (will get one when I can afford it) but are there things like a streetmap prog for places like London, U.K. ? I’ll leave it there for now – I’m trying to sort out an outlook synchronization problem (I found a posting about a prog called Intellisync on your forum…see – it’s helped me already!) Thanks in advance! Tan.

NOT* I just reaslied this is in thw wrong forum area – my bad – sorry!

Hey there – Welcome to Dave’s Ipaq. I have a piece of software that is called ‘Visual IT Tube’ which has the UK road map. You can get to it from this link

http://www.visualit.co.uk/

Haven’t had a chance to use it yet, next time I go back to UK ! You can get various expansion sleeves for the 3630 (CF,PC,GSM/GPRS) so the possibilities are endless ! Please come back here and ask all your questions, we all love to help.

Regards,

No worries mate, moved your post to the right forum. Looking for some good games? Couple of good sites for you. Astraware is a Dave’s iPAQ supporter. I have a couple of their games and they are very addictive. There have been several recent reviews of their games on our news page. Check them out.

Also, check out these games from Sean Reynolds. I have purchased his all inclusive package of games and play them, they are very adictive. They play very well on the older slower iPaqs. Sean is based in U.K. as well so you will be supporting a fellow countryman.

As for street map programs. There are tons of them out there. Some are freeware/shareware. Others are full retail packages. MicroSofts Pocket Streets is a good one for here in the states. Have not had a chance to check out if they have a UK version of maps. For more info a good mapping programs, checkout some of the GPS related sites. I use Intellisync for my iPaqs to sync with non-Microsoft email systems. Have used it for years. You will like it.

Welcome to our forums,

You might want to spend some time looking at some of the software reviews we have done just to start to get some familiarity with some of the “stuff” that is out there. http://davesipaq.com/archive.php?c=35&type=a Don’t rush…take your time and slowlyyou will accumulate quite a collection. There are a lot of freeware games out there so don’t spend money right away…take your time! This is the first place I gennerally send folks to because it has a little of everything , they are terrific and they are free.

Do you know if this IPAQ has PPC2000 or PPC2002. The 3600 series originally came with PPC2000 but most were upgraded to PPC2002.

When this iPaq came out most of the software titles depended upon processor type and OS version for compatability. The processor on that unit is an ARM. And, like Laura said, it was capable of being upgraded to PPC2002. Knowing these two bits of information would allow you to determine if a program is capable of running on that iPaq. To find out the OS version you can look in the Asset Viewer. Tap on Start > Settings > System Tab > Asset Viewer. Tap on the + icons to expand the list of items on the unit. Look under Version to find the OS version. Product Revision Level 2.X means the unit is still running the original PPC 2000. Product Revision Level 3.x means it has been upgraded to PPC 2002.

Before you ask, no, this unit can not run the newer PPC 2003 OS.
