Fractal Design unveils North XL case with wooden front panel

Fractal Design has unveiled a larger version of its North computer case, complete with a wooden front panel. Unlike the original model released in 2022, the new North XL case can accommodate larger E-ATX motherboards. But that’s not the only difference between the two models.

Aside from its size, which measures 503 × 240 × 509 mm, the larger version is identical to the original. The inner space of the new model is 61.45 liters, 16 liters more than the smaller North model. The weight of the larger model varies from 9.5 to 9.7 kg depending on its configuration, while the smaller version weighs between 7.6 and 7.7 kg.

Like its predecessor, the North XL will be available in versions with transparent tempered glass side windows or semi-transparent metallic mesh side panels. Both black and white color options will be available. The white version will feature fully transparent tempered glass, while the black version will have matte tempered glass.

In comparison to the standard North, the North XL case supports the installation of a wider range of hardware. This includes longer video cards (up to 380–413 mm), taller CPU coolers (up to 185 mm), and longer power supply units (up to 290 mm). It also supports the placement of up to 420 mm radiators at the top and front of the case.

The new model has more fan installation points. The North XL case allows for the installation of up to three 140-mm or 120-mm fans at the front (three 140-mm fans are included), one 140-mm or 120-mm fan at the back, two 180-mm or 140-mm fans or three 120-mm fans at the top, and two 140-mm or 120-mm fans on the left side panel. Overall, you can install up to eight 140-mm fans or up to nine 120-mm fans.

Interestingly, the North XL has reduced the number of combined installation points for 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch drives from three to two. Like the smaller model, the North XL provides two additional spots for 2.5-inch drives.

The selection of connectors on the front panel remains the same. It includes two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port. Full specifications for the North XL and North cases can be found below.

The recommended price for the Fractal Design North XL is $170 for both the glass and mesh side panel versions. This makes it $40 more expensive than its smaller counterpart, the North.
