Firewalk Studios Unveils Release Date and Trailers for Concord
The team-based heroic shooter game by Firewalk Studios, Concord, has made notable splashes in the PlayStation Studios ecosystem. Creators of Destiny 2 and Apex Legends unveiled cinematic and gameplay trailers for Concord at the recent State of Play show. A launch date for the game has also been confirmed.
The game features a gang of cosmic criminals called “Northstar”. The crew embarks on dangerous adventures across the Wild Space, while competing with other freelance shooter squads.
Influenced by sci-fi anime, films, and series, the cinematic trailer of Concord suggests inspiration drawn from “Guardians of the Galaxy”.
The gameplay is expected to be thrilling and well-balanced, featuring varied characters (mystics, robots, archers, snipers) with unique abilities.
Similar to Overwatch 2, Concord’s battles are conducted in a “5 vs 5” format. At launch, there will be 16 heroes available with regular free updates promised post-launch, involving new characters, maps, game modes, and cinematic scenes.
Despite these promising features, viewer response to the trailers has been overwhelmingly skeptical. Both the cinematic and gameplay trailers garnered thrice as many dislikes as likes. Some of the comments from viewers include:
- “The game has gone sour like milk, even before it’s released.” – notes MrSTVR;
- “Ah, yes. Another ‘5 vs 5’ multiplayer shooter that’s so scarce now” – quips ChamAramis;
- “Thank God. The industry needs more service games!” – argues tomorrowslost4299;
- “We’re not Overwatch, really” – sonix3034 assures on behalf of the developers;
- “If it’s not free-to-play, it will break and burn before release. Won’t pay a penny for this.” – masterchief601 is resolute;
- “Now Sony will have its own Redfall” – predicts NARUTOnemesis.
Confirmation suggests that Concord will be available for sale from 23rd August on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and PS5. Pre-order, available from 6th June, includes early access to a “summer beta”. To play on PC, a PSN account will be required.
