Introduction of a New Era in Motorcycling
At the EICMA 2025 exhibition in Milan, Honda has unveiled the WN7, marking its foray into the electric motorcycle market. This groundbreaking model is engineered to deliver a seamless blend of powerful acceleration and responsive handling, promising riders an unparalleled feeling of lightness and effortless “flight” that gasoline-powered motorcycles simply cannot match.
Innovative Design and Aesthetic Appeal
The design philosophy behind the WN7 focuses on functional simplicity. Its standout feature is a horizontal light strip at the front, which Honda declares will be a signature visual element for future electric motorcycles. Complementing this is a newly introduced color scheme: a black base with gold accents on select components, which will be standard across Honda’s global electric lineup.
Redefining Motorcycle Architecture
In a bold departure from traditional design, the WN7 eschews the conventional frame that typically connects the motorcycle’s front and rear. Instead, the bike’s core is a centrally located aluminum battery case, which functions as an integral component of the structural framework. This “frameless” configuration not only reduces weight but offers designers greater flexibility in arranging components, resulting in a sleeker, more compact form. Centralizing the heavy battery also enhances the bike’s balance, contributing to more lively and predictable handling.
Powerful Performance and Eco-Friendly Features
The WN7 is powered by a newly developed compact electric motor with liquid cooling and an integrated inverter. It can produce up to 50 kW of maximum power, comparable to 600cc combustion engines, and boasts a peak torque of 100 Nm, on par with 1000cc class machines. Power is delivered to the rear wheel via a specially designed gearbox and a belt drive, minimizing noise during operation.
Advanced Charging and Range Capabilities
Equipped with a stationary lithium-ion battery boasting a capacity of 9.3 kWh, the WN7 supports dual charging standards: CCS2 for fast charging and Type 2 for standard charging, including compatibility with household outlets in numerous countries. Fast-charging can boost energy reserves from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, while a full charge in standard mode takes less than 2.4 hours, offering a range of up to 140 km under the WMTC methodology.
Smart Regenerative Braking and Maneuverability
When decelerating, the WN7’s electric motor switches to a regenerative mode, slowing the bike and regenerating energy into the battery. The Deceleration Selector switch on the left handlebar allows riders to adjust this regen braking, choosing between more aggressive regeneration or a sensation akin to coasting with minimal conventional brake use. The Walking Speed Mode is another practical feature, enabling slow forward or backward movement via the left switch and throttle, simplifying parking and navigation in tight spaces.
Production and Market Rollout Plan
Production of the Honda WN7 will be undertaken at Honda’s Kumamoto factory, the company’s global hub for motorcycle manufacture. The model is set to be gradually introduced into global markets, aligning with the growing shift toward electric transportation worldwide.
