Larian provides details on the release date of the next major patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 and reveals new information about official mod support.

Belgian game developers Larian Studios have announced details of the upcoming major patch for their game Baldur’s Gate 3. The patch, which will be the seventh for the game, is scheduled for release in September.

Details of the Patch

Among the new features reported to be included in the patch are particularly evil endings to the game, modding tools, and several bug fixes. A closed alpha stage of testing for selected modders has been initiated from June 3, and a beta phase involving 1000 players is due to commence in July.

Expanding Modding Capabilities

The patch will incorporate tools that will enable players to add new weapons, armors, classes, subclasses, and spells to Baldur’s Gate 3. These modifications can also be shared with others. The mod features will be first introduced for Windows via the mod.io platform, and later expanded to Mac and consoles, though without the editor.

Any mods approved by Larian will be available on consoles. While unofficial mods for Baldur’s Gate 3 currently exist, official support will improve compatibility with future versions of the game and facilitate fan-made creations on new platforms.

Improper mods will not receive support from Larian but their distribution will not be prohibited

Continued Game Development

Baldur’s Gate 3 was released in early access on PC (Steam, GOG) last August and is now available on Mac, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S. The developers are also preparing photo modes, cross-play capabilities, and undisclosed surprises for the game’s anniversary.
