AMD is set to unveil its 800-series chipsets alongside its upcoming Ryzen 9000 desktop chips. This revelation comes from a leaked internal presentation from Gigabyte. Prior rumors suggested that AMD plans to skip the 700-series chipsets and jump straight to the 800-series, aligning with Intel, which is also slated to release an 800-series chipset for its future Core Ultra 200 processors.
The forthcoming AMD 800-series motherboards will be compatible with the AM5 Socket-coated Ryzen 7000 (Raphael) and Ryzen 8000 (Hawk Point) processors. However, the primary focus will be on supporting the Ryzen 9000 (Granite Ridge) chips with Zen 5 architecture.
According to the leaked presentation, the initial Ryzen 9000 lineup will consist of four models including the Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and the Ryzen 5 9600X, which are presumed to have 16, 12, 8, and 6 Zen 5 cores respectively.
The slides also reveal that the Granite Ridge processors will support DDR5-5600 RAM without overclocking, a notable upgrade from the Ryzen 7000’s native DDR5-5200 memory. The new chips will also support RAM overclocking profiles AMD EXPO and Intel XMP up to a speed of 8000 MT/s, and the AMD Infinity Fabric bus frequency will see an uptick from 2000 to 2400 MHz.
Gigabyte is preparing to launch several models of the AMD 800-series motherboards, including:
- X870E AORUS XTREME AI TOP;
- X870E AORUS PRO ICE;
- X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI;
- X870I AORUS PRO;
- B850 AI TOP;
- B850M DS3H;
- B850M AORUS ELITE AX;
- B840 D2H.
This leak confirms the manufacturer’s intentions to debut its proprietary AI TOP series boards. It also reveals that the 800-series will include AMD X870, X870E, B850, and B840 chipsets, which were previously rumored.
Other notable features of Gigabyte’s AMD 800-series motherboards include support for USB4, a new Wi-Fi antenna mounting mechanism, Wi-Fi 7 compatibility, and the presence of a DisplayPort 2.1 port, presumably the UHBR20 model, which offers the highest bandwidth of this interface.
AMD is expected to launch the new Ryzen 9000 processors and 800-series chipsets next week during the Computex 2024 exhibition, where partners are also anticipated to announce new motherboard models.
