Microsoft has suspended the deployment of Windows 11 24H2 on the Insider Release Preview channel. The update was to incorporate several new features, including support for Wi-Fi 7, Sudo for Windows, Rust in the Windows kernel, and various user interaction settings, but the tech giant has offered no explanation regarding the pause. A barrage of complaints, however, points to potential serious issues with the operating system.
Brandon LeBlanc, senior manager of the Windows Insider Programme, shared a brief remark, “I have nothing more to share beyond what’s in the blog post and we’re working to get this update rolling again soon.” Microsoft recommends the Release Preview Channel for commercial users and customers who wish to test the operating system before its final release.
Microsoft had previously warned that AI features, including the controversial user action recording capability, Recall, would not be immediately available, as these require a PC equipped with Copilot+. Despite these stipulations, users have reported no difficulty enabling Recall on PCs without an AI processor.
Users who managed to download and install the update reported application hangs, decreased computer performance, and VPN connectivity issues. The patch version for Arm processors was described by one social media user as the “most catastrophic test build of the OS encountered in their experience.”
