Qualcomm CEO: Snapdragon X Elite Processors Will Revolutionize PCs, Much Like Windows 95 Once Did

The CEO of Qualcomm, Christiano Amon, addressed the Computex 2024 audience discussing the expansion of Snapdragon X Elite processors into the laptop and desktop computers segment, all operating under Microsoft Windows. Amon strongly compared this technological advance to the groundbreaking launch of Windows 95.

Amon declared, “The next generation of PCs is here.” He explained that the Snapdragon X Elite platforms alongside the concept of Microsoft Copilot Plus PC will be applied not only to laptops but across all PC form factors. Sales of devices driven by this processor series are set to begin from June 18, offered by leading companies like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, and Samsung. The built-in neural coprocessor allows PCs based on Snapdragon X Elite to deliver a performance of 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS) when interacting with artificial intelligence (AI) systems. Over 20 models of PCs in the Copilot Plus PC category based on Snapdragon X Elite have been announced by partners from both companies.

Soon, AI-powered software assistants will be able to diagnose domestic appliances in real-time, with these next-generation PCs, suggesting the most optimal solutions to the problem and even facilitating the purchase of a new device with the owner’s verbal bank card authorization. Musicians will also be able to enhance their records, and video translations into different languages will become a routine task, one that the laptop can comfortably handle.

In the AI performance-to-power ratio, according to Qualcomm leaders, the Snapdragon X Elite series processors outperform Apple’s M3 by 2.6 times and Intel’s Core Ultra 7 155H by 5.4 times. The Snapdragon X Elite processors are not only faster, but they consume lesser energy and are cooler. Battery utilization of laptops based on Snapdragon X Elite processors is 60% higher and 70% for video conferencing compared to laptops powered by Intel’s Core Ultra 7 155H. Overall, video streaming allows the Qualcomm processor to achieve double the battery life.
