Report from Patriot Memory’s Booth at Computex 2024: Fast SSD and RAM Showcase

At the Computex 2024 event, Patriot Memory unveiled a collection of unique and exciting products, ranging from some of the fastest memory modules to high-speed solid-state drives (SSDs). Let’s delve into the details.

Premium SSDs

Patriot introduced its fastest SSDs for desktop PCs, the current flagship Viper PV553 M.2 2280 PCIe Gen5 x4 and its successor, the Viper PV573 M.2 2280 PCIe Gen5 x4, promising even higher data transfer speeds. Both are in the M.2 2280 form factor, relying on the PCIe 5.0 x4 interface, as their names suggest.

Viper PV553 and Viper PV573 SSDs

The Viper PV553 SSD, built on the Phison PS5026-E26 controller and Micron’s 3D TLC NAND memory chips, offers sequential read speeds of up to 12,400 MB/s and write speeds of up to 11,800 MB/s. It comes in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB versions.

In contrast, the Viper PV573 M.2 2280 PCIe Gen5 x4 offers sequential read speeds of up to 14,000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 12,000 MB/s. The speed increase is due to the use of new memory chips with bandwidth up to 2400 MT/s.

Both SSDs share a cooling system – each one has a low-profile heatsink, 16.5mm tall with a tiny fan designed for 25,000 hours of continuous operation. Consequently, SSD temperatures never exceed 45 °C, guaranteeing system stability.

The Mini SSD

Additionally, Patriot Memory highlighted the compact Viper VP4000 Mini SSD. It is designed in the M.2 2230 format and is intended for use in modern portable gaming consoles like the Asus ROG Ally and Steam Deck. The SSD features a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface and offers sequential read speeds of up to 5000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 3500 MB/s. It is available in 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB versions.

Memory Modules

Besides SSDs, Patriot also introduced an array of versatile memory modules. Notably, the Viper Xtreme 5 DDR5 series offers high overclocking potential and top-tier performance. The manufacturer provides sets of 32GB and 48GB with 7600 and 8200 MT/s speeds (with XMP profiles), but that’s not the limit, as even faster memory is expected in the future.

Collaboration Pieces

In collaboration with MSI, Patriot unveiled the Viper Xtreme 5 RGB DDR5 MPower memory module series. These modules mirror the characteristics of those above; however, the difference lies in their exterior design, which suits systems with MSI components.

Moreover, Patriot has the Viper Elite 5 RGB TUF Gaming Alliance memory modules in its arsenal, developed in partnership with Asus and styled accordingly with stark white radiators. These modules, with a height of just 4.4 cm, cater to virtually any cooler installation. The series offers single modules of 16GB and 32GB, and sets ranging from 32GB to 96GB. Maximum speed-7000 MT/s.

Additional Memory Modules

Patriot Memory also exhibited other memory modules. The Viper AMD TR5 OC RDIMM series is intended for systems running on AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 processors with up to 128GB capacity. The Viper Venom DDR5 modules offer high speeds (up to 7400 MT/s) and low-profile radiators, with or without RGB lighting. The Signature Line introduces modules with compact radiators or those without radiators, suitable for gaming and work systems. The same series offers SO-DIMM modules for laptops and mini-PCs.
