Google rolls out Android 15 Developer Preview 1
This week, Google launched Android 15 Developer Preview 1, the first beta version of its new mobile software platform. Among other features, it offers several enhancements designed to improve communication between software and hardware, making interactions with Android-based devices more comfortable.
Updates Aimed at Developers and Consumers Alike
While many of Android 15’s updates cater to developers who utilize the software platform on their devices, consumers can also look forward to certain changes. Notably, the ‘Sound and Vibration’ setting menu now sports a ‘Keyboard Vibration’ option. This new addition allows users to turn off or on haptic feedback from the virtual keyboard. Developers have also incorporated a ‘Notification Volume Reduction’ feature that allows users to control the loudness of notifications from various applications. Plus, new interaction options have emerged for devices with flexible displays.
A More Dynamic and Energy-Efficient Platform
The Android Dynamic Performance Framework, which audits the interaction between energy-intensive applications and a device’s power system, has received some updates. Developers have introduced various improvements to optimize device resource consumption necessary for the stable functioning of applications and have enhanced the energy-efficiency of supporting applications with long background processes.
Improved Privacy and Security
As usual, developers have updated the system for ensuring privacy and security, including protection against harmful software infiltrating application files. Android 15 incorporates the latest version of Privacy Sandbox, making it increasingly easier to detect application usage schemes for targeted advertising, thereby raising data privacy levels.
Enhanced Camera Capabilities
Developers are continuously enhancing the camera capabilities of third-party applications. For example, the new update promises a more comfortable low-light image preview because the images will be brighter. Additionally, developers will be able to access flash controls for adjusting its intensity.
An Unstable First Release for Developers
It is important to note that Android 15 Developer Preview 1 is primarily for developers and might not function stably. The first beta version for users will be available in the spring, with completion set for the end of summer. The stable version of Android 15 is likely to be accessible to a broader user base by the fall.
