Reliable data from Valve draws attention to the mounting trend of 32 GB RAM in computers amongst Steam platform users. As of May, there’s also a moderate expansion of Linux-run devices among users.
The Shift to 32GB RAM
Steam’s largest user base (47.08%) still operate computers with 16GB RAM, but the number of users with 32GB RAM systems is on the rise at 28.72%, marking a 0.63% increase from the previous month. While there was a 1.18% decline in 16GB systems, 32GB RAM systems were the only ones to display growth. In contrast, usage of 24GB RAM systems remained steady at 1.28%, regardless of the rise in 32GB system users.
Graphics Accelerators and CPUs Trends
In terms of graphics accelerators, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 saw a 0.46% increase in usage, making it the predominant model with a total share of 6.01% amongst Steam users. It is followed by GeForce GTX 1650 at 4.38%, and GeForce RTX 3060 Ti at 3.73%. There was a minor growth of 0.25% in the usage of the GeForce RTX 4070, which stands at 2.39%. In contrast, CPU statistics remained fairly unchanged.
Operating Systems Analysis
Windows solidly maintains a majority with 50.35% of Steam users using Windows 10. However, Windows 11 is catching up, with a 0.93% boost in May to reach a total of 46.08%. Linux systems show remarkable growth, jumping from 1.9% to 2.32%. As Steam continues to accommodate games for Mac, the number of Apple OS users is also increasing, at 1.47% for macOS Sonoma.
