“Doom: The Dark Ages Officially Announced – Featuring a Chainsaw-Shield, a Mechanically-Controlled Dragon, and No Multiplayer Mode”

The rumours stand confirmed: Bethesda Softworks announced their next installment in the esteemed Doom series, Doom: The Dark Ages, at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. The game has been developed by id Software. Official announcement details can be found here.

Game Setting and Plot

The plot of Doom: The Dark Ages is set in a dark fantasy ambiance preceding Doom (2016). Players will delve into the backstory of the Doom Slayer, tracing his journey from being the last hope of the kingdom to becoming the most formidable nightmare of Hell.

Weapons and Abilities

Players will have access to an extensive arsenal in Doom: The Dark Ages. In addition to the tried and tested Super Shotgun, new weapons such as the war chain and throwing saw shield are introduced. The Doom Slayer’s superhuman strength will prove invaluable.

Additional Features

It promises a cinematic prequel to Doom (2016), with an “epic-scale” story, new and familiar enemies, a controllable battle robot named Atlans, and a mechanical dragon. No multiplayer functionalities will be available.

Release Details

Doom: The Dark Ages is planned to be released in 2025. The game will be available on PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and also included in the Game Pass. The development of the game draws inspiration from the original Doom (1993).
