AMD to release B840 chipset for inexpensive boards without PCIe 5.0 and CPU overclocking, but with RAM overclocking.

AMD is gearing up for the release of four new 800-series chipsets, according to a Gigabyte internal presentation leak. These chipsets are set to debut alongside Ryzen 9000 series processors.

New Flagship Chipsets on the Way

The AMD X670E and X670 flagships will be succeeded by the X870E and X870. The X870E will consist of two Promontory21 chips, while the X870 will have just one. The X870 also boasts PCIe 5.0 x16 interface support and at least one PCIe 5.0 x4 for SSDs.

Mid-Range Motherboards Chipsets Update

The B850 and B840 will replace AMD’s B650E and B650 mid-range motherboards. This system logic will use Promontory19 chips. The main difference between the B850 and B840 lies in the latter’s lack of CPU overclocking support. Furthermore, the B840 will not support PCIe 5.0, but will offer RAM overclocking support.

Gigabyte’s Plans and AMD’s Continued Use of A620/A

At present, Gigabyte is known to be preparing at least one motherboard on the B840 chip – the B840M DS2H model. In addition, AMD will continue utilizing the A620/A chipset for entry-level motherboards.
