American Airlines Center Goes Wireless

In what’s expected to be the largest deployment of Wi-Fi technology within any sporting and entertainment venue, American Airlines Center and Aruba Wireless Networks (Aruba) have teamed up to bring secure wireless networking to the facility.

We are very excited to be working with Aruba to enable us here at American Airlines Center to use wireless access to be far more efficient and profitable in our efforts to support and please our customers, said Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks.

The phased rollout of Wi-Fi has begun and is currently being used to provide wireless access for the American Airlines Center staff, the news media, third party promoters and guests who utilize AA Center meeting facilities. AA Center executives are planning future applications for guest access to the Wi-Fi system during sporting and other events, and what services will be provided.

American Airlines Center is a state-of-the-art facility with many different types of users and applications, said Lori Glasser-Seinera, Vice President, Digital Media at American Airlines Center. We are finding the benefits of a secure, centrally controlled wireless system are limitless for our guests and those involved in facility operations.

Major technical leaps in the innovation of secure wireless technology now let venues such as American Airlines Center add real value to their operations as well as the experience of guests, said Don LeBeau, president and CEO of Aruba. We are proud and excited to have been selected to provide wireless equipment on a strategic project with such scope and breadth as this.

The American Airlines Center staff is using the new Wi-Fi system to support a wide variety of applications. For example, in-seat order takers now use secure, Wi-Fi handheld devices to process and transmit orders.

The Aruba Wi-Fi system at American Airlines Center provides service on all three Wi-Fi broadcast standards: 802.11 a, b and g.
