Apple devices to integrate not only ChatGPT but also other models, including Google Gemini.

WWDC 2024 confirmed this week that ChatGPT, a chatbot by OpenAI, will integrate with Apple’s Siri voice interface features. The management at Apple also hinted that ChatGPT isn’t the only integration they’re considering. Potential alternatives, should the need arise, include large language models like Google’s Gemini.

Apple’s Senior Vice President, Craig Federighi, made this disclosure in an interview following the WWDC 2024 opening, as reported by TechCrunch. According to Federighi, “in the future, we anticipate integration with other models, including, for instance, Google Gemini.” While Federighi did not make any official announcements, he confirmed Apple’s intention to work in that direction.

As previously highlighted, iOS 18 users will not necessitate individual payment or authorization in OpenAI services for ChatGPT access. Data transmission safety will be transparently regulated. Before using OpenAI services, Apple users will receive a query from Siri requesting confirmation. If there is a need to transmit any information to OpenAI’s infrastructure, users must affirm this action through Siri, Apple’s voice assistant.

In an interesting twist, this integration has raised concerns for Elon Musk. So apprehensive is he that he has contemplated banning his employees from using Apple devices that support iOS 18. In his view, transmitting information through Apple to OpenAI poses significant security risks.
