Apple Unveils Next Version of VisionOS 2 at WWDC 2024
At the annual WWDC 2024 developers conference, tech giant Apple announced its next version of software for its mixed reality headset, Vision Pro. This update, named VisionOS 2, brings a multitude of exciting changes.
3D Photos and Ultra-wide Virtual Monitors
Apple’s developers have enhanced the “Photos” app to transform regular photos into spatial, or three-dimensional photos, with thanks to machine learning technology. Additionally, Apple has announced improvements to the virtual monitor function for Mac, introducing support for higher resolution that can simulate a display comparable to two curved ultra-wide 4K monitors.
SharePlay Feature and Special Journey Mode
The Apple technology team has successfully integrated SharePlay into the VisionOS Photos application, a feature that allows users to interact and share content with their friends. Canon, in partnership with Apple, will also release a 3D lens for the EOS R7 camera, built specifically for creating content for Vision Pro. To improve the user experience, Apple has developed a function catering to airplane and train journeys, providing high-quality content viewing without additional devices.
Immersive Entertainment and Global Availability
Partnering with Redbull, Apple revealed an upcoming immersive sports series, further expanding its immersive entertainment portfolio. Additionally, Apple will be releasing its first scripted immersive feature soon. Apple also announced the pre-order dates for Vision Pro headset’s global expansion beyond the US. Customers from China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore can pre-order from June 13, with sales starting June 28. Apple enthusiasts in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the UK can place their pre-orders from June 28, with sales kicking off on July 12.
