Whats your favourite FREE software for the PPC? There is another thread with a similar name, but i thought it would be both interesting and useful to have another thread focusing on free software. I use: DisplayOff – allows you to turn off the display without putting the pda in standby mode, that way you could for example listen to music, while using less battery power. Qibla – an application that helps you find out in which direction Mekka lies, in relation to the position of the sun. Passman – a secure way of keeping track of your passwords. creates an encrypted database. can be set to delete the database after 3 failed log in attempts. AgileMessenger – similar to trillian or miranda for the pc, this application allows you to be online on msn, icq, yahoo or aim using one peace of software. |

GSPocketMagi V1.32.18 from Green Software. Excellent, easy to use and no problems whatsoever. I’m using it with my hx4700. |

I’m with you on Agile, especially now that it supports voice notes. Lets see, here’s the freeware I’m using right now: *Betaplayer — my favorite movie player *GSPlayer — my favorite MP3/Ogg/Midi player *Cabinstl — a must if you install software from CAB files *Dockware — a nice clock *Flite — Speech Synthesis… fun for impersonating Stephen Hawking *JB Frequency Tuner — for instrument tuning *Micrsoft Reader *Adobe Reader 2 *Pocket RAR *pPod — for ticking off my friends with ipods *Skype — Sweet! *Tweaks 2k2 Lite — a couple decent hacks, but not as many as the trial or full pay for version *Mobile Atelier — a fun painting program, good tool set, a bit more in depth plugin wise than MS Paint *WiFiFoFum — must have for finding hotspots! *Every game by Valentin Iliescu (Chess, Mastermind, Gemswap, Rubiks Cube) *Pac-Man — (I think thats free now at PocketPCfreeware.com) *CEZebra — REALLY HARD OTHELLO!!! *Dots — good box drawing game…why not *Galactic Assault — decent space invaders clone good sound FX *Heretic, Hexen, DOOM II — The games aren’t free, but the emulators for them are *High Noon Drifter — Good Shoot em up *Hot Death Uno — Just got this haven’t really torn into it yet *Frogon — Not a great game, but it’s a total Tron throwback *Pocket Blocks — 3D Tetris (Well-tris??) *Tank Zone — Atari goodness *PocketNES and Pocket VCS for old Atari and NES ROMS (not really legal, but they haven’t released Blaster Master or Tempest for GBA or I would buy it) My Favorite free today plugin is tAgenda. I’ve used cLaunch and Calendar+ (both are very cool for freeware), but I really like the way tAgenda handles calendar and tasks. ftxBrowser is pretty good if you like tabbed browsing, but I liked MultiIE better, so I went ahead and bought it. I also just picked up a program called Orionic. It’s a map of the night sky, and you can zoom in on constellations. Haven’t really done much with it yet though, so we’ll see if I keep it. Thats about it for freeware I really use.
Hope that helps the list! |

I remember when I first discovered POCKETTV to play MPEG movies of my kids on my IPAQ. That was a really good moment. __________________ Laura Moderator, Dave’s iPAQ Dave’s iPAQ is not affiliated with HP Members Only FAQ Section . Have news? Submit it . Want to contact me? Can you post PPOD? Can you post Ppod somewhere? It looks like Apple has forced the maker to close down… |

Pretty extensive and I have most of the above! My Additions: 1. SafeMode 1.0 – allows soft-reset into safe mode 2. siDiary – Complete blood glucose management and monitoring for persons with Diabetes. 3. GSFinder – Great File explorer that’s customizable and provides advanced features. 4.PHM RegEdit – for the times Tweaks2k doesn’t cover something. 5. Tetris – should be the defacto standard entertainment replacing solataire 6. Adobe Reader 2.0 – well, you know what this is for. __________________ JNGold PDA Lineage: Handspring Visor Deluxe, Visor Prism, Casio EM-500, Casio E-200, HP Jornada 568, IPAQ 1910,IPAQ 4150,Ipaq 2750 (with Moto Razr V3) |

I Just got SafeMode a while back (infact I “broke the story” when it was released). It’s been a god-send with my pet overclocking obsession. Adobe is alright, but I’m just not that into e-books. That and PDF’s I get on the go open faster in Clearvue My wife used SiDiary, she liked it a lot, but her new meter does almost everything Si did, and she doesn’t like to carry a bunch of gadgets around. GSFinder is pretty cool. I’m trying out Total Commander right now. It’s just been updated to 2.0.
What Tetris are you using? Right now I’m just using PocketNES to play the old NES Tetris (and Dr. Mario when I want a change). |

I beat you to it over at “the other site” Quote:
It’s the one by Ramon de Klien: http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=246 I usually prefer “native” PPC games over the emulators. Quote:
I don’t know why that app would “tick off” any iPod user, it was such a joke that a Ipod user would laugh histerically. As an Ipod user, I surely did. __________________ JNGold PDA Lineage: Handspring Visor Deluxe, Visor Prism, Casio EM-500, Casio E-200, HP Jornada 568, IPAQ 1910,IPAQ 4150,Ipaq 2750 (with Moto Razr V3) Last edited by JNGold : 06-29-2005 at 02:07 PM. |

You did beat me on SafeMode…You Punk! I’ll have to try out that Tetris. It’s not convenient to load up PNES everytime I get a hankerin for fallin blocks.
I actually got a cousin with pPod. He was slammin me for listening to MP3’s on my iPaq, and that it couldn’t possibly be as convenient as a click wheel (with button mapping I disagree, but thats another debate). “Click wheel huh? I can do that.” It was fun watching his jaw drop as his precious click wheel was displayed in all its glory on a heathen Microsoft device. Later I showed him it wasn’t really as good, but it was fun. |

Languages and more… There have so many great apps mentioned already! For great bible software, I recommend Pocket E-Sword. Its top of the line, and some would argue that its better than anything you could buy for PPC. A vast array of translations, commentaries, and other add-ons can be picked up free as well. If you need to study Koine Greek, or the Tanahk in Hebrew script, there are great options here as well. For Greek, (and there are other options) I still recommend Pocket E-Sword. You can’t get the Nestle-Aland 27th, but the text isn’t far off and they do have a great rendition of the LXX. For Hebrew, I recommend the Hebrew Reader. Once you have installed the Reader, then go get the actual Torah and Tanakh. I think they also have options to get Jewish holidays and festivals for your calendar if you are Jewish, or would want those for another reason. The Hebrew books come zipped, which is a great opportunity to second PocketRAR, and mention Total Commander. While I’m at it, Pocket Mechanic (demo/registry) and Thunderhawk (shareware/browser) are also terrific! Speaking of browsers (this might have been mentioned), Minimo by Mozilla Foundation is growing stronger with time (*support Firefox*). For online info, PocketRSS or FeederReader are comparable to my usage for manipulating and accessing syndication, and PocketBlogger has been a pleasant surprise as well. I still haven’t settled on an HTML writer for a web page. Thankful for freebies, BRIAN |
