Elon Musk Hints at Launching New Mailing Service, XMail

Following the wave of rumors on social media about the closure of Gmail, an employee of social network X approached the platform’s owner, Elon Musk, inquiring about a potential creation of a mail service dubbed ‘XMail’. Musk confirmed such plans exist.

The question, “When are we going to make XMail?” was posed by X’s security engineer, Nate McGrady. Musk responded simply, “It will happen”. No further comments were made on the matter.

If social network X does indeed launch a proprietary mail service, it is doubtful it will gain much popularity given the current abundance of established email services. The platform is working on numerous other features, including online payments and video calls, as well as seeking to attract advertisers.

Elon Musk possibly considering a new email service

Nevertheless, Musk might well aim to allure Google users. The search giant occasionally shuts down even its popular services. On the past Thursday, messages started to circulate on social media suggesting that Google could possibly shut down Gmail on August 1, 2024. In fact, the company planned to disable the lighter HTML version, which facilitated the use of mail on older computers

Last week, Elon Musk criticized the image generator integrated into Google’s Gemini chat bot, noting attempts to contrive history in favor of racial inclusivity.
