It’s Too Early to Retire AM4: AMD Introduces Affordable Ryzen 7 5700X3D and 5700, Ryzen 5 5600GT and 5500GT Processors

AMD has unveiled four new additions to the Ryzen 5000 series for the Socket AM4 platform. The announcement affirms the tech giant’s support for the platform, launched in 2016. Joining the lineup are the eight-core Ryzen 7 5700X3D and Ryzen 7 5700, and the six-core Ryzen 5 5600GT and Ryzen 5 5500GT, designed to offer a cost-effective solution for PCs.

Features of the New Processors

The Ryzen 7 5700X3D features eight computational cores using Zen 3 architecture with 16 virtual threads support. Its base frequency is 3.0 GHz, while the Boost frequency tops at 4.1 GHz. The Ryzen 7 5700X3D carries an L3 cache of 96 MB out of a total of 100 MB cache memory, thanks to the 3D V-Cache technology. The chip’s power consumption is rated at 105W.

AMD has priced the Ryzen 7 5700X3D at $249, marking a $110 decrease compared to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, initially priced $450 at launch in early 2022 and currently retailing at $359 on Amazon.

AMD’s new eight-core Ryzen 7 5700, priced at $175, supports 16 virtual threads. Despite having a higher base frequency than the Ryzen 7 5700X, their specifications significantly vary. While the former belongs to the Vermeer chip series, the latter is part of the APU Cezanne series, known for their integrated graphics. Additionally, the Ryzen 7 5700 lacks PCIe 4.0 interface support and features a disabled iGPU. It has a total cache memory of 20 MB, with 16MB as L3, and a power consumption of 65W.

New Addition to the Ryzen 5 Series

AMD also introduced the six-core Ryzen 5 5600GT and Ryzen 5 5500GT, both supporting 12 virtual threads and built upon monolithic Cezanne crystals. They feature Radeon integrated graphics with the senior model having seven performance blocks and the junior having six. These models’ operating frequencies vary – the 5600GT ranges from 3.6 to 4.6 GHz while the base model maxes out at 4.4 GHz. Both processors have a 19 MB cache memory and 65W TDP.

Performance Comparison

AMD’s performance charts indicate that the Ryzen 7 5700X3D delivers up to 13% higher gaming performance than Intel Core i5-13600K at an equal price point of $249.

Compared to the Intel Core i5-12400F, the Ryzen 7 5700 offers a 5% increase in gaming performance. The Ryzen 5 5600GT and Ryzen 5 5500GT models are compared to the Ryzen 5 5600G and Ryzen 5 5500G, with AMD claiming that the 5500GT delivers up to 3% faster gaming and up to 10% faster application speeds. The 5600GT reportedly surpasses its predecessor by up to 10% in games and up to 11% in applications.

Availability

The junior Ryzen 5 5500GT is priced at $125, while the senior Ryzen 5 5600GT will retail at $140. All four additions to the Ryzen 5000 series will be available for purchase from January 31.
