The Silent Hill 2 remake, a famous psychological horror game, was presented by Poland’s Bloober Team at May’s State of Play event. Its release date was declared and a 13-minute gameplay trailer was released on Silent Hill Transmission half an hour later.
The remake, titled Silent Hill 2, is set to be released on October 8 of this year for Steam and PS5. A two-minute gameplay trailer accompanied the announcement.
Pre-orders for Silent Hill 2 began outside Russia after the presentation. Pre-order bonuses include a mask for the protagonist in the form of the head of Mira the dog from the original game’s humorous ending and Robbie the rabbit (a PS5 exclusive):
- Standard Edition ($70) — includes the game only;
- Expanded Edition ($80) — allows for 48-hour early access, a “Pyramid Head” cardboard (pizza box) mask, a digital art book, and a soundtrack.
The nearly 14-minute gameplay trailer of the remake, which debuted on Silent Hill Transmission, pleasantly surprised viewers after a demo presentation in February.
Gamers noted improvements in the design of the main character compared to earlier demonstrations. However, there are unanswered questions regarding Angela’s design in the release date trailer. The absence of QTE in the clip was also noticed.
In Silent Hill 2, the protagonist James Sunderland arrives at the fog-enshrouded town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his deceased wife, Mary.
The remake is being created with input from artist Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka. The use of Unreal Engine 5 is promised, promising immersive sounds and no load screens.
