MediaTek releases Dimensity 7300 and 7300X chips for standard and foldable mid-range smartphones

MediaTek, a leading semiconductor company, has announced the launch of two new mid-range smartphone processors: the Dimensity 7300 and Dimensity 7300X. The company suggests the latter for use in foldable smartphones due to its dual display support.

Processor Specifications

Both chips are manufactured using 4-nm technology. Each processor features four Cortex-A78 cores with a frequency of 2.5 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0 GHz. They support both LPDDR5 and LPDDR4x RAM variants and can reach speeds of up to 6400 MT/s, along with UFS 3.1 flash memory. The transition to the 4-nm process has led to a 25% drop in power consumption of the Cortex-A78 cores, compared to predecessor Dimensity 7050, despite these cores having a 100 MHz lower frequency.

Imaging Capabilities and Display Support

Each of the Dimensity 7300 and 7300X chips is equipped with an Imagiq 950 signal processor, capable of supporting 200 MP cameras, 12-bit HDR, 4K HDR video, various AI functions, and multi-camera simultaneous capture. The SoCs are stated to support 10-bit displays with up to WFHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, or Full HD+ displays with a refresh rate up to 144 Hz. The Dimensity 7300X additionally supports dual displays, making it a better fit for foldable smartphones featuring a main flexible display and an external auxiliary one.

AI Acceleration and Performance

The processors also come with an integrated Arm Mali-G615 MC2 graphics unit, promising a 20 percent increase in gaming frame rates. They feature MediaTek’s AI accelerators APU 655, responsible for various camera AI functions, such as object recognition, face recognition, and automatic settings adjustment. The MediaTek APU 655 also boosts the performance of voice virtual assistants. With the help of APU 655, the AI performance of these new processors is twice as high as the Dimensity 7050.

Connectivity Features

Lastly, the chips offer support for 5G standards, with download speeds of up to 3.27 Gbps, carrier aggregation, Wi-Fi 6E support, and dual 5G SIM capabilities with dual VoNR support.
