NVIDIA Introduces Professional Graphics Card, the RTX 5880 Ada
NVIDIA has unveiled its professional-grade graphics card, the RTX 5880 Ada. This trimmed-down version of the RTX 6000 Ada, which was originally released in 2022, is effectively a professional counterpart to the recently debuted GeForce RTX 4090D. The new model is destined for China and several other countries that can no longer receive shipments of the original RTX 6000 Ada due to recent US sanctions.
Technical Specifications and Compliance with US Export Policies
The technical specifications of the NVIDIA RTX 5880 Ada reveal a trimmed-down graphics processor, while the rest of the specifications remain untouched. Similar to the consumer-grade GeForce RTX 4090D, this workstation graphics card adheres to the US’s revised export policies. Its performance has been artificially reduced to meet the requirements for shipments to sanctioned countries.
The NVIDIA RTX 5880 Ada uses a scaled-back version of the flagship graphics processor AD102. This successor has 14,080 CUDA cores and 4400 Tensor cores, a decrease of 22% compared to the top-of-the-line RTX 6000 Ada. The graphics processor clock speed registers at 2.5 GHz, providing FP32 performance of 69.3 TFLOPS and Tensor performance of 1108 TFLOPS, 24% lower than the RTX 6000’s comparable numbers.
Features and Price Estimation
In addition to its technical capabilities, the NVIDIA RTX 5880 Ada offers 48 GB of GDDR6 memory with a bandwidth of 960 GB/s. Energy consumption has been decreased by 15 W to 285 W, down from RTX 6000 Ada’s 300 W rating. This two-slot design with active cooling features four DisplayPort 1.4a outputs and includes three encoding-decoding engines with AV1 support.
No official pricing information has been released yet for the NVIDIA RTX 5880 Ada. However, it is expected to cost approximately as much as the RTX 6000 Ada, i.e., around $6800. This speculation is based on the identical pricing of the “sanction-proof” NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090D and the RTX 4090 products.
