NVIDIA Plans to Release a Slimmed-Down GeForce RTX 3050 with 6GB Memory Soon

NVIDIA, a leading technology company, is set to release a downgraded version of the entry-level GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card, equipped with 6GB of memory, in just a few weeks, according to VideoCardz. The revamp also features a less powerful graphics processor.

Downgrades from the Original Model

The new version deviates from the original RTX 3050 model, released in January 2022 with 8GB of memory. It will have fewer CUDA cores and less video memory, with reduced bandwidth. Power consumption will also nearly halve.

Technical Specifications

The original GeForce RTX 3050 with 8GB memory uses a GA106-150 chip with 2560 CUDA cores. The GeForce RTX 3050 model with 6GB is predicted to utilize a GPU with 2304 CUDA cores – 10% less. Intriguingly, the OEM version of the GeForce RTX 3050 with 8GB, released in July 2022 for system integrators, features the same amount of cores. The GPU frequencies of the new model will also be reduced—from 1552 MHz (gaming) and 1777 MHz (Boost), to 1042 MHz (32% less) and 1470 MHz (a 17% drop), respectively.

Bandwidth and Power Consumption

With the reduction in video memory, the new GeForce RTX 3050 will also experience a cutback in bandwidth. The 128-bit memory bus will narrow to 96 bits, causing bandwidth to fall from 224 to 168GB/sec—an approximate 25% decrease. The graphics card’s power consumption will also fall by a considerable 46%, from 130 watts to just 70.

It is also anticipated that the GeForce RTX 3050 with 6GB will come with passive cooling systems.
