German Startup Lynk+ Showcases Revolutionary Modular Liquid Cooling System at Computex 2024

The German startup Lynk+ has presented a working prototype of a modular, maintenance-free, liquid cooling system (LCU) at Computex 2024. This innovative device rivals the effectiveness of custom liquid cooling systems, but with a simpler assembly process. Demonstrated with a Palit GeForce RTX 4090 video card featuring a unique cooling system and a 7-inch display, Lynk+’s solution promises to reshape expectations in the field.

Solving the Complexity of Custom Cooling Systems

The challenge with custom LCUs is their complex assembly. DIY enthusiasts have long struggled with selecting the correct LCU components, cutting tubes to size, and maintaining the coolant levels. This process involves a considerable risk of damaging expensive PC components due to coolant spills. Lynk+’s cutting-edge solution addresses these issues.

Unveiling Lynk+ Modular LCU Solution

The innovative idea from Lynk+ involves installing water blocks with a simplified connection mechanism on video cards and selling separate external radiators complete with pumps and coolant. As these systems are maintenance-free, they pose no spillage risk, making them a safer alternative to traditional LCUs. The modular setup can not only cool the video card, but also, with the addition of a secondary radiator, the central processor or multiple video cards in a system.

Demonstration with Palit GeForce RTX 4090

Lynk+ has showcased its solution on Palit’s GeForce RTX 4090 video card, for which Lynk+ has developed two water blocks. Both components are made of aluminum, with one equipped with a large 7-inch display that can show assorted system data, while the other lacks this display.

Lynk+’s Cooling System Performance

According to a representative from Lynk+, their solution includes a built-in patented evaporation chamber. This feature enables the cooling system to perform more effectively than custom open-loop LCUs. With the video card drawing 500W, 50W above the reference value for the RTX 4090, the GPU’s temperature remained at 60 °C, even without additional overclocking—which hints at a high potential for GPU frequency elevation.

Before Computex, overclocker Roman “Der8auer” Hartung examined Lynk+’s modular LCU. During a 15-minute 3DMark graphic test, the RTX 4090 card’s energy consumption was 390W, with a GPU temperature of 58 °C. But when the radiator fan speed was increased from 30 to 60%, the card’s temperature dropped to 52 °C.

Future Release Plans

For the modular LCU to hit the market, Lynk+ needs the support of video card manufacturers. At present, Lynk+ only has a prototype, developed in collaboration with Palit.
