The tech company EVGA had previously engineered an X670E chipset motherboard for the Socket AM5, but it never made it to market. The motherboard, planned to be sold as X670E Classified, was aimed at the company’s enthusiast-focused product line. Prototypes of this model were recently auctioned off at a price of around $1,300.
Constructed in an E-ATX form factor, similar to most products from EVGA’s Classified series, the motherboard features a potent CPU power subsystem and multiple overclock-friendly solutions. It also offers top-located memory slots, side-turned I/O ports (including power inputs), and a neat overall layout that accommodates extreme cooling solutions.
Jiacheng Liu, a tech enthusiast, shared details about four of these motherboard prototypes that were auctioned. Regular users might have difficulties operating these units due to the absence of VRM radiators, chipset, and two M.2 NVMe PCIe 5.0 storage slots which do not consume any of the primary PCIe 5.0 x16 bus bandwidth.
In addition to this, EVGA does not support these motherboards which means they are shipped with its original BIOS version. This version works with AMD Ryzen 7000 chips based on Zen 4 architecture but not with the upcoming Ryzen 9000 based on Zen 5. There are also doubts about the support for AMD Ryzen 7000X3D models, which is probably why no one bid more than $1,300 for these prototypes. However, enthusiasts may still find a way to modify the BIOS and utilize the latest AGESA.
