Qualcomm, the multinational technology company, has reiterated its commitment to continually improve game performance on its latest PC processors. However, company managers caution that achieving absolute compatibility with all games may not be a realistic expectation for the time being.
30-Fold Performance Enhancement Achieved
Eric Demers, Qualcomm’s Senior Vice President, stated in an interview that the company will never stop optimizing games for Snapdragon. The last several months have seen a 30-fold improvement in performance on some games, according to PCWorld. However, the optimization process is indeed time-consuming given the vast number of games. Demers revealed that Qualcomm has managed to run about 200 of the most popular games on Steam, with the majority of the issues resolved. Still, tens of thousands of games (with Steam hosting not less than 100,000) are yet to be optimized.
Introducing Monthly Adreno Driver Updates for Snapdragon
Qualcomm intends to issue monthly Adreno driver updates for Snapdragon as part of pursuing constant improvements in compatibility and performance. Snapdragon X Elite has already shown promising performance with games such as Baldur’s Gate 3, even though the game was not run at peak graphic settings.
A Compatibility Race with No Finish Line
In contrast to competitors Intel and AMD, Qualcomm does not guarantee out-of-the-box compatibility with all games. Nevertheless, the company is pulling out all stops to rectify this and catch up with industry leaders in terms of game compatibility. Although Demers acknowledges that this optimization feels like an “endless marathon,” users of PCs based on Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite will just need to exercise some patience. The compatibility and performance of games will improve each month, but achieving the perfect compatibility is a matter of time. In the meantime, Qualcomm has pledged to release regular updates to address performance issues.
