Ryzen 7 8700G Significantly Speedier with High-Speed RAM

First reviews of AMD Ryzen 8000G hybrid processors show that their built-in graphics can’t match entry-level video cards in most cases. However, they occasionally reach parity with GeForce GTX 1650 and Radeon RX 6500 XT, and can even outperform these desktop video cards with additional overclocking.

Ryzen 7 8700G includes an integrated Radeon 780M graphic core with 12 execution units (768 stream processors, 48 texture units, and 32 rasterization blocks). This GPU fully supports DirectX 12 Ultimate API, including ray tracing.

According to a review on the Chinese platform BiliBili, the Ryzen 7 8700G integrated graphics, when overclocked, outperforms the GeForce RTX 1650 in the 3DMark TimeSpy test. The iGPU frequency was increased from its base clock of 2.9 GHz to 3.4 GHz. The reviewer also overclocked the processor and memory. The Ryzen 8000G (Hawk Point) processors, like their Ryzen 5000G (Cezanne) predecessors, feature an advanced memory controller when compared to the main Ryzen 7000 (Raphael) series processors. This allows the chips to work with higher speed RAM, boosting integrated graphics performance considerably.

The reviewer successfully ran DDR5-8400 memory with the Ryzen 7 8700G system. The combination of overclocked processor, graphics, and memory resulted in a 17% performance increase in the 3DMark TimeSpy test, allowing it to outperform the discrete GeForce GTX 1650.

Tests conducted by YouTube channel HardwareUnboxed also showed high performance of the Ryzen 7 8700G’s integrated graphics. Although weaker than a combination of Radeon RX 6500 XT and Ryzen 7 7700, it outpaced the Ryzen 7 5700G and the same discrete graphics card.

Interestingly, in some games, a Ryzen 7 8700G with a discrete video card was slower than the same hybrid processor on its own, although most games were noticeably weaker on the integrated solution.
