Presently, the AI-based Galaxy AI functions are only available on the Galaxy S24 smartphones. However, according to a report by The Verge, this will change next month. Samsung will fulfill its earlier commitment to add AI utilities to S23 series devices, including the S23 FE, late-model foldable devices, and tablets with the rollout of One UI 6.1 update at the end of March.
The firmware update will be received by the folding smartphones Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, in addition to tablets comprising Galaxy Tab S9, S9 Plus, and S9 Ultra. After updating to the One UI 6.1 software shell, device users will gain access to Galaxy AI services which includes real-time voice and text translation of a phone call, generative photo and video editor, and Google Circle search function.
Currently, the full suite of Galaxy AI artificial intelligence-based functions is available to Samsung device users free of charge. However, it appears that this could change post-2025, with users expected to pay for these services. As we know, a significant portion of Galaxy AI functions rely on Google Cloud, including generative AI editing and speech-to-text translation. These services incur substantial costs, making the likelihood of charges for access to them in the future rather predictable.
It is also reported that the One UI 6.1 will include several updates unrelated to AI, like lock screen widgets and a new unified Quick Share.
