Samsung Reveals Details of Exynos 2400 Chip: 10 Cores, Ray Tracing and AMD FSR Support

Samsung Unveils Exynos 2400 Chipset Details

Samsung officially introduced the Exynos 2400 flagship processor back in October last year without detailing its specifics. The company confirmed it to be the primary chip for some of the Galaxy S24 flagship series smartphones. Despite the global announcement at the Galaxy Unpacked event and the unveiling of the Galaxy S24 series, the processor’s specifications remained largely undisclosed until now. Detailed features have recently been published on Samsung’s official website.

Specifications of Samsung Exynos 2400 Processor

The semiconductor company confirmed that the Exynos 2400 is a 10-core processor. Its primary Cortex-X4 core operates at a frequency of 3.20 GHz. Additionally, the chip includes two Cortex-A720 cores at a frequency of 2.9 GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores at 2.6 GHz, and four Cortex-A520 cores at 2.0 GHz. This marks Samsung’s first processor fabricated using its new 4LPP process technology and FOWLP (Fan Out Wafer Level Packaging).

The Exynos 2400 features the Samsung Xclipse 940 graphics accelerator that’s based on the AMD RDNA 3 architecture. Notably, it supports hardware ray tracing, variable shading technology, and the FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) scaling technology. However, key GPU details, such as the number of WGP blocks and frequency, were not disclosed. Earlier leaks suggests that the Xclipse 940 GPU operates at a frequency of around 1.1 GHz. The Exynos 2400 supports 4K video output at 120 frames per second or 1440p at 144 frames per second when connected to an external device.

Processor’s Neural Engine

Samsung claims that the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) of the Exynos 2400 is over 14 times more efficient than its predecessor, the Exynos 2200. The updated neural engine incorporates two general-purpose NPUs and two small NPUs. Nevertheless, the precise performance rate in TOPS (trillions of operations per second) hasn’t been specified by Samsung.

Availability of Samsung Exynos 2400

The Exynos 2400 processor will be incorporated in international versions of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ smartphones, barring devices for the US, China, Canada, and Japan. In these markets, Samsung will retail devices powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
