Skype Announces New Carrier Agreement

Skype Technologies S.A., the Global Internet Telephony Company, announced an agreement with TDC Song to provide call termination services and numbering allocations for Skype premium offerings.

TDC Song joins previously announced carriers, including B3G Telecom, Cable and Wireless, COLT, HGC, iBasis, Level3 and Teleglobe, in providing global termination and premium services.

“Skype offers global reach and worldwide accessibility for our users, and partnering with these carefully-selected carriers provides distinct benefits for our users who wish to interconnect with the traditional telephony network,” said Niklas Zennstrom, Skype’s CEO and co-founder. “Our carrier partners are the foundation of our premium services, and we are pleased to join forces with an expanding set of like-minded companies to maximize existing infrastructure to fully realize the potentials of Internet telephony.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Skype to deliver new advantages for the millions of Skype users who are redefining what it means to communicate in modern times,” said Hanna Gronberg, Director, Carrier and Wholesale Relations of TDC Song. “Our partnership provides us new opportunities to grow our business by tapping Skype’s global and growing customer base.”

The carrier partnership further extends Skype’s reach and burnishes its position as the only Global Internet Telephony Company, providing innovative services such as SkypeOut, Skype’s first premium service with more than 1.2 million users that receive pre-paid calling to PSTN numbers for local rates. Additionally Skype is testing the SkypeIn service, allowing subscribers to receive inbound calls to their Skype client from ordinary telephones or mobile phones worldwide, enhancing interconnectivity and global calling.

Skype’s premium services are pre-paid and available in the Skype Store at www.skype.com. All Skype premium products, SkypeIn, SkypeOut and Skype Voicemail are available across all Skype platforms, Mac OS X, Linux and Pocket PC and Windows. Skype is the leading VOIP-category product worldwide with more than 34.7 million users.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
