Starfield Launches In-Game Store and Mod Editor, First Trailer for Shattered Space DLC Confirms Fan Theories

The Xbox Games Showcase 2024 yesterday highlighted not only the anticipated demo of the Shattered Space add-on for Starfield, but also the release of a major new patch for the space role-playing game from Bethesda.

As fans speculated, the Shattered Space expansion focuses on unraveling the secrets of the House of Va’ruun, a religious cult that worships the Great Serpent. An introduction of new locations, enemies, and storyline is projected.

At the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, a three-minute gameplay trailer of Shattered Space was unveiled, yet the exact release date remained unsaid. The expansion is slated to be launched anytime before the end of 2024, with rumours suggesting it could be in September.

Starfield was blessed with the long-promised Creation Kit mod editor with the release of the June patch. This novel tool is available for free on Steam, offering enthusiasts the opportunity to develop new content for the game.

In conjunction with the Creation Kit, an in-game store named Creations was introduced in Starfield, where new content for the game, inclusive of paid content, is available. For owners of the premium version of the game, a sum of 1000 credits for purchases is given as a gift.

A breakdown of what’s included in the June update for Starfield (you can find the full list of changes here) involves:

  • A free quest from the new Bounty Hunter series. The continuation is available for a fee in Creations;
  • Reward Scanner; allowing one to ascertain if they are on an NPC reward list. The situation can be managed either peacefully or otherwise;
  • Melee weapons can be upgraded;
  • One can create ammunition for their weapon;
  • Improvements in game performance and stability;
  • A variety of bugs of different degrees of severity have been fixed.

Starfield was released in September 2023 on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X, S, and in Game Pass. The gaming critics rated it at 83−85%. However, it rated lower as compared to Skyrim’s score of around 94%.
