Messaging platform Telegram has recently debuted a series of new features with the release of its latest update. It now supports animated effects on messages, offers the option to place captions atop images and videos, introduces global hashtags, collapsible quotes and enhanced phone number interactions. Furthermore, dynamic backgrounds and chic call animations are also available on Apple’s macOS.
New Features Unpacked
Users can now send messages with animated effects that appear only when the chat is opened by the recipient. In the free version, six effects are available, while the premium version provides access to hundreds more. To add an animation, press and hold the send button, then choose an emoji that represents the intended emotion. This function was previously used for scheduling messages or sending them without sound.
Another novel feature is that users can now locate captions on top of photos and videos rather than underneath them. To do so, again press and hold the send button. It’s also possible to change the location of the caption on previously sent posts. In addition, clicking on a phone number inside a message offers multiple actions, including swift addition to contacts, from an updated menu.
Hashtags, a feature supported since 2015, see an upgrade, too. Clicking on a hashtag now reveals search results from major public channels. These hashtag results can be previewed in either a publication feed or a list format. Another new addition is the capability to create collapsible quotes—a text fragment can be highlighted, formatted as a quote button in the input field chosen to collapse it. Lastly, dynamic backgrounds and stylish call animations are now present on Apple macOS, a design enhancement already available on Android and iOS.
