Xbox Game Studios and Asobo Studio have announced the release of a free Dune Expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator, based on the science fiction universe of ‘Dune’. The expansion was revealed recently, elevating the popular flight simulation game to intergalactic heights.
Release Delayed Due to Film Postponement
The Dune Expansion had been expected to launch on November 3, but due to the delay of ‘Dune: Part Two’, its release was quietly postponed till now.
First-Time Extraterrestrial Gameplay
In a first for Microsoft Flight Simulator, the Dune Expansion takes players beyond Earth to the desert planet Arrakis from ‘Dune’ and gives them control of the royal Atreides family’s ornithopter.
Introducing the Royal Ornithopter
The royal ornithopter, distinguished by its rapid acceleration, remarkable speed, and increased maneuverability, is a fresh addition to the flight simulator. The flying device, which resembles a dragonfly, is powered by four “wings”.
Challenging Game Activities
Players can test their flying skills with takeoff, landing, and free-fall practice. They can also test their mettle in five time trials and a rescue operation involving saving a flight instructor from a sandstorm.
Collaboration with ‘Dune: Part Two’
In collaboration with ‘Dune: Part Two’, Microsoft will hold a special giveaway featuring a Dune styled Xbox Series S console with an ornithopter stand and the world’s first “hoverable” Xbox controller.
Availability of Dune Expansion
Microsoft Flight Simulator players on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass (PC and Xbox) can now access the Dune Expansion free of charge. The premiere of the movie ‘Dune: Part Two’ is set for March 1st.
