Microsoft has begun a fresh distribution of functional updates this week for its Windows 11 23H2 and Windows 11 22H2 systems. The most notable development post the KB5034848 package installation is the inclusion of support for the USB 4 2.0 standard, which allows for an impressive data transfer speed of up to 80 Gbps.
The installation of the said package will enhance the Windows 11 22H2 build to version 22621.3235 and Windows 11 23H2 to version 22631.32.35. It is worth noting that though the implementation of the USB 4 2.0 standard support in Windows 11 marks progress, it currently changes little as applicable hardware solutions are yet to be readily available in the market. Nevertheless, insiders of the Microsoft program have had access to this update since January, offering hardware manufacturers an incentive to saturate the market with devices supporting USB 4 2.0.
Users will initially need a computer with a leading-edge processor, such as the recently introduced Intel Core 14th-generation HX-series to fully utilise this update. Furthermore, a peripheral device supporting the new standard will also be required. As for the USB 4 2.0 standard itself, with a data transfer speed of up to 80 Gbps, it is the logical successor to the USB 4 standard, which allowed for data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps.
