Problems with Attachment OK another problems that I just noticed with my rx3715… I was trying to send an attachment files, say a word documents using my rx3715 creating a new E-mail message. then a message pops up saying these; “Message attachment cannot be added. Check to make sure the correct storage card is in the device. If your device stores attachments on a strorage card, you must insert a storage card to add any files to messages.” A long one huh. well anyway, i try to troubleshoot myself by changing the the “attachment on storage card” options, neither works and it gives the same pop-up message. And my SD card is inserted, and working just fine. somehow the fault could be in the messaging/email somehow. There could be something wrong with my setting, but somehow i feel it could also be a fault from HP. well i think that what happened to the still unresolved problems of dial up to bluetooth phone, and HP never reply to me regarding this BT problem.

so can anyone with rx3715 try to create a new message and see whether you can attach allright.. it will be greatly appreciated

ok God bless…

Is this a Pocket Word Doc or a regular Word doc you have saved to the SD card?

Hmm, I do not know why you are having the trouble. Especially since it is with Pocket Office files. I was thinking that the problem was with the files, but if they are Pocket Office Files that would not be the problem. I do not think it would be a problem limited to the rx3000 series. I do not have one so I can not test it out. Hopefully someone else who has one can respond back and let us know if they are having any problems. If no one responds I would try saving off the data and performing a hard reset. Then immediately test to see if you can perform the attachments. If you can, then add your software back one at a time and test to see if you can continue to do the attachments after each program install.

Good Luck,

How are you going about selecting the file to attach? Are you browsing to the file by drilling down the file structure/tree to the file itself?

Or does your inbox provide you with a way of directly linking to the file?

I have the same problem

Could it be that some software changed something in the registry base, and now, after uninstalling it the change remains making us the problem?

If you solve it, please, tell me.

Ok SOrry for not replying for so long, got lots of personal things lately so been busy doing it.. ok well i just got the news today that ipaq is updating the rom for rx3715 solving the bluettoth dialup problem, I was waiting for this to come first then i play around with the hard reset stuff.. anyway, I always keep a backup file right after i install my usual programs. after I upgrade my ROM then i restore the back up files, somehow the attachment files is not working, in fact it is the same problem. then i come into conclusion that the problems lies somewhere in the initial install, i then hard reset my ipaq again, and there you go, my beautiful rx3715 was able to attach files again… maybe ppan is right but i wouldnt know for sure… ;p

thanks for the help guys..

does it have to be hard reset?

And what I loose after it? Is it done by removing the battery for long? And what about the storate card and instalations that are on it? Is there a way to fix the attachement problem without hard reseting? Have you noticed a change in you registry?

Thanks.

Hmm. I think yes, it has to be hard reset-ed. i installed almost all the same programs, and have no problem with it.

changed in registry – nope, i just didn’t look at it yet, all i know is that hard reset should do the magic. what was wrong is one of the programs that I installed previously. with regard to this, storage card only affect the memory in the PDA not the ipaq filestore nor the storage card so you won’t lose anything stored in either memory.

Attaching files with memory card option

I have an iPaq 4700 that’s doing the same thing. It doesn’t matter what kind of file you try to attach — pictures that come with the device / etc. It appears to be a mail issue. Hard resetting to defaults allows you to attach files again, but “something” we have installed causes the problem. We’re looking into it further. I’ve removed the memory card and unchecked the option to save attachments to the card, but the error message still appears.

I wonder if it is possible to trace the software that caused the problem. Had you tried installing webis mail? That sw has some problems with deinstalation, maybe it caused our problems.

regards

Well, a lot of Firmware and BIOS updates recommend that you NOT backup your data and then restore after an update, the logic being that you are restoring outdated drivers, etc. Can you repeat the upgrade process and this time delay restoring the backup until AFTER you’ve tried performing the File Attach?

WadeK, you may wish to try this strategy as well if you are performing a restoral of a previous backup prior to experiencing the trouble.

I think that restoring your data will restore the bogus point either it is a registry entry, or a file, …

I do not forget that it still is a bug in the OS and somebody should trace it… At least we, because we would like out toys to do attache files in emails.

Is there any development on the attachement issue with the 3715. I have the latest software and also can’t send any attachements. Is this reported to Hp already? Does another mail programm work? Regards,

Audio

Attachement problem update

Hello All, I just spend 2 hours with the online chat support from HP. After doing all (hardreset, and restoring) We came to the following conclusion After hardreset without any installed programms: The attachement to email works fine. After I do a restore and all my files are back:

The attachement to email gives the ‘message attachement cannot be added. Check to make sure the correct storage card is in the device…..’

Hp advised me to hardreset and install the programms one by one to see where the problem is. I am going on holiday for 2 weeks so I can only check after 2 weeks or so. Please let me know if you find something. (maybe a registry problem/change) Maybe people with problems can put a list of installed programms on this forum with their next reply? Well that’s it for now. Regards,

RJB

Cool, so at least Audio’s problem was due to and old backup being restored.

Maybe Audio will have some time during the two week vacation to work on installing his/her software…

I have the same problems over GPRS or WiFi using my own mail server with or without sd card inserted. Tried the patch for my device at the following location

http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/f…load/22131.html

Patch didn’t help

Also get infrequent errors about email not being able to be sent yet the Outbox still get’s cleared and I loose the messages. Not to mention sent items not being saved in the Sent folder.
