email freezing my ipaq Whenever i hit email button or icon it freezes everything and I have to soft reset. No matter how I try to get into email Via the button or using touch screen it will cause this to happen. It tries to open, but i see an x pop up quickly like something is closing the application even though nothing was open. Sorry if this is confusing. Using HTTPmail and Pocket Plus 2.5 New ROM is installed Thanks in advance |

Check your memory. Low memory will cause your unit to freeze. The Mail program takes about 1m of memory to open. I could not tell you want else could be causing this, but I know when I have too much open and I open that last program my iPAQ will freeze up. So, I have learned to close and shut-down programs complelety to ensure memory is free to open the next program. __________________ 1 – iPAQ H6315 (T-Mobile Service) 1 – compaq nc6000 4 – HP NonStop Servers S88000 (6 Processors each) |

Thanks Pedro but I don’t think that is the issue. If do a soft reset, and try to open the mail program it happens even if nothing else is running. I wonder if it is something with HTTP Mail, or with Pocket Plus.
I have the email set up to check for email on my hotmail account every 30 minutes. When it tries to get the email it also freezes the unit and i have to do a soft reset. |

I had the same problem. SBP Pocket Plus is the cause. You have to add the following files to the “close button” exceptions list in Pocket Plus: tmail.exe and iexplore.exe. This will stop those crashes. |

I have to agree with dkb218 in part. I have never had an issue with the email closing if I do it with the “Settings\System\Memory\Running Programs” procedure. However, when I have SBP’s software closing the email it freezes pretty regularly. Definitely add the “tmail.exe” program to the “Exceptions List” in the SBP “Close Button” configuration. As far as adding “iexplore.exe” I have not needed to add that to avoid the freezing, I am also not using the HTTP Mail feature.
Good Luck. __________________ Johnny D Fighting the injustice of imposed realities by rejecting disinformation!!! |

What Brigoul is talking about isn’t CLOSING the email, but OPENING it. I still have this problem occassionally, and its happened to me after a HARD Restart with nothing installed as well as with the SBP installed. I don’t have a solution other than to suggest you do a Restore from a backup. Assuming you’ve made a backup since you’ve re-flashed the rom with the update, the restore shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. This is the only thing that’s seemed to help.
This started, by the way, only AFTER I applied the official TMobile ROM update. |

brigoul I just cannot duplicate the problem. I have set mine with different settings and it always seems to work.
Maybe you could outline the steps you are going through from startup…I would like to see if I can duplicate the error then try to have a resolution. __________________ Jack Cook Senior Editor, Dave’s iPAQ Microsoft MVP-Windows Mobile Devices NEW Dont forget our Podcast hotline telephone number in the US: 1-425-738-9506 available 24 hours a day 7 days a week or leave us a SKYPE Voicemail by clicking here . Thanks for the responses guys! I un-installed pocket plus and the HTTPMail seems to be working now. But I like the pocket plus program. — What happens is when I am on the main “Today” screen. I see HTTP: Unread 2 (meaning two unread emails). If I click this it would sometimes bring me to the inbox or it would freeze (50-50 chance). What would happen when it froze was that I would see a the (X) in the top right hand corner flash quickly almost like something was opening and the system automatically closed the window. _—– it would also freeze if i was already in the inbox and clicked the Send Receive Mail (double envelope icon at the bottom right) of inbox. —— Freeze if i click the email button next to red phone button Freeze if i click the email icon in pocket plus.
This occured only after the new rom update. Was fine before. |

I spoke too soon. Happening again without pocket plus.
I emailed HTTPMail developer and he just said download the new rom. Well that is what seems to have caused the problem in the first place. |

I have had this problem for some time. I have found that if I delete HTTP from the Ipaq the freezing problem is gone. If I reinstall HTTP I have random freezing problems trying to open any email account. I have removed HTTP and reinstalled three times. The problem is only there with HTTP installed. I really like the HTTP program but can’t live with the locking of the device. Hopefully HTTP is listening and will try to write a patch. In my case it seems to be worse since I upgraged the ROM. |

I have emailed the developer and he just said update to the new rom and that the problem is with the 6315 and “that is why t-mobile is discontuning the product”….doesn’t look like he will be any help. |

6315 devices do have a problematic GPRS stack, for some reason this results in HTTPMail getting stuck when pocket outlook loads it, this is the only type of pocket pc with this weird problem as far as I know. The work-around is to have pocket-outlook start-up when the device starts. To do that please follow the instructions bellow: 1) Place the device in the cradle 2) On the desktop open ActiveSync and click the explorer button on its toolbar 3) In the explorer window you just opened go into the device’s Windows folder 4) Locate tmail.exe (it may show up as just tmail), right-click it and select Copy 5) Go to the StartUp folder and from the explorer’s menu select Edit and Paste Shortcut
6) Soft-reset the device. |

The shortcut was already there. The program worked perfectly BEFORE the Rom upgrade put out by T-Mobile. |

Actually no, the shortcut you mentioned is for poutlook.exe, the one I was talking abot is for tmail.exe. Do try my suggestion, feedback from other 6315 users of httpmail indicates that it will fix the problem.

You won’t find it with the buil-in find tool, that’s why you need to do it via ActiveSync on your desktop. |
