Wireless Just What Doc Ordered

REDMOND, Wash. & DURHAM, N.C.— AT&T Wireless and MercuryMD, Inc. are teaming to provide medical professionals with wireless access to critical patient information on PDAs and PocketPCs while on-the-go, the companies announced today at MercuryMD’s Second Annual Customer Summit.

Through this relationship, the MData Enterprise System from MercuryMD has been enabled for the AT&T Wireless nationwide GSM(/GPRS wireless data network for use with popular handheld devices. Beginning today, physicians and other healthcare professionals now can use a palmOne Treo 600 or an Audiovox PPC 4100 to wirelessly and securely access real-time patient information such as demographics, lab results, medication lists, and other reports in any of 7,500 cities and towns in the U.S. in which AT&T Wireless has coverage.

The AT&T Wireless-MercuryMD solution, which features MData’s SyncEverywhere technology, is being demonstrated at MercuryMD’s Customer Summit. AT&T services are being offered for sale at the MercuryMD event and will be available through the AT&T Wireless enterprise sales organization afterwards.

“AT&T Wireless is a pioneer in helping healthcare providers wirelessly enable their existing infrastructure cost-effectively,” said Laura Johnson, director, industry solutions, at AT&T Wireless. “Our partnership with an industry leader like MercuryMD provides us with an outstanding addition to our portfolio of solutions for the medical community. Our joint offering gives clinicians secure mobile access to clinical data critical to provide patients with the care they need regardless of the time of day.”

“MercuryMD is committed to delivering value-driven and progressive mobile data solutions to our customers,” said Alan Ying, CEO for MercuryMD. “In listening to our customers and their expressed need for access to clinical data from outside the hospital walls, we are pleased to work with AT&T Wireless to provide clinicians such access.”

The MData Enterprise System, with the enhanced SyncEverywhere technology, integrates data from hospitals’ existing information systems and securely delivers it to medical professionals’ wireless handheld devices. Anywhere where a cellular signal can be received, clinicians using MData have near real-time, 24/7 access to comprehensive clinical patient data. The solution provides substantial timesavings by eliminating manual data gathering and time-consuming communications between hospitals and physicians. It also decreases medical errors due to illegibility and poor data availability, and improves communications between clinicians caring for the same patient.
