GPRS Email Attachment Sending Problem

I’m having trouble sending email with attachments over GPRS (T-Mobile Network). The same exact email sends with no problem over WiFi. My example test email contains a PDF file. The email attempting to be sent ends up being 30K. The SMTP server I’m sending through is a standard server that uses port 25 and user/pass send authentication (therefore I now that it’s not an anti-relay issue). I have tried this with two different mail servers. After clicking the send/receive button (the software displays “Receiving Folders” for what seems like an eternity), I get an error display of “Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and e-mail account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again”. If I delete the item in the outbox and hit send/receive, I don’t get the error and it pulls in any waiting email. If leave the item in the outbox and switch to WiFi, in just seconds the same email sends with no errors. Anyone else seeing this sort of problem? Best regards,

Greg

I have tested in the same location and same network sending the same attachment over GPRS using a T-Mobile PocketPC Phone Edition (PPC 2003). No problems. There’s something wrong with some h6315s (at least mine), GPRS, and sending data (at least SMTP). Others, surely you are you having trouble. Or is it just me? I have until Thursday to figure this out and then I must return. Can’t keep a device that can’t send 30K emails. Regards,

Greg

I have encountered the same problem! I had my Ipaq sim unlocked by T-Mobile as I travel extensively and need to use other sim cards overseas. I am an avid GPRS user and have never encountered such problems with any of my other phones (Treo 600 / SE900 / Mot.V600) as with the HP6315. I cannot attach anything to an email (jpeg or pdf). The email takes for ever and then its constantly logging off and wanting to log on to download messages that it could not download initially. I am told that this might be a timeout issue. As there is no one in S.Africa who can assist I have resigned myself to the fact that I will have to wait till I get back to the States to sort this out with T-Mobile. I am about to check if the problem persists with WiFi service (available on floor below my office).

I called T-Mobile and they acknowledged that the unit has a problem with sending attachments via email using GPRS. They are working on a fix. Will keep you updated when this happens..

Hello there, T-mobile has issued a specific patch on this GPRS attachment issue, in fact it was impossible to sent more that 10k ! Only problem, this patch won’t work on 6365 (Asian version), this is a pity and I could not find any solution yet. Any clue?

Got it from wr6969 from this thread .. And now could send attachment via GPRS.. But I don’t understand why is your iPAQ failed to operate after applying this patch.. I have patched 3pcs iPAQ 6365 of my friends and all working now… No complaints…

Montox, How much time did it take do restart after applying the ROM patch? Mine took more than 20 minutes (screen still black) so I had to restart it and now, even after soft and hard reset, the ipaq still on the first HP Ipaq loading page (BIOS I guess) and no way to get the windows working anymore….I had to send it back to HP today, hope they will fix the problem !!

Hi David… I’m really sorry for what happened to your iPAQ… My procedure is standard.. At first I just using non standard sync cable, the installation ROM file to iPAQ success, but then installation ROM said that I must updating on charge power, so I tap on “Update ROM later”.. Then I changed to cradle and plug in the AC adaptor, then I search with File Explorer and found the file under Program Files\HPMiscXIPUpdate\HPMiscXIPUpdate.exe… I tap it and the ROM installation was in progress… The installation about 1 minutes, self soft reset, waiting 3-5 minutes for another installation, self soft reset again and all set… But to make sure I make another Soft Reset my own…

Btw, when I update the ROM I turned off all the Wireless function (GSM/GPRS, Bluetooth, WiFi, Infra Red)… At first I’m afraid that this ROM update will ‘kill’ iPAQ, but I think it is not because the ROM will update only the GPRS right? Not the whole ROM including bootloader etc…

ROM Update Works Now E-Mail Doesn’t….. So I apply the T-Mobile patch to my 6315 that I unlocked and use on Cingular. And this is the story… BEFORE: I was happily able to browse the web, download e-mail messages (not send — I would receive a message from sysadmin saying that the recipient address was invalid), and do just about anything I wanted to do. I apply the patch…no worries…ran and voila…a Today Screen. NOW: I can somewhat browse the web (a bit slower in speed now) and now when I try to do e-mail, it does the following: Connecting… Logging On… Sending and Receiving Mail… MSGBOX – Please check your connection settings and try again… MSGBOX – Please verify that you have network coverage and try again…. Grrrrrrr….

I hope that Cingular releases the 6315 with an updated version of the software…other than 1.0.00000000 as it is right now.

Can’t attached files

Hi Guys I installed the patch from Tmobile and I have MNOTES stup on my IPAQ so I can send and receive email from my Domino server. Every thing work fine except if I try to send a attachement I get the following message: Message attachemnt cannot be added. Check to make sure the correct storage card is in the device. If you device store attachements on astorage card you must insert a storage card to add any files to message. I have a 1 gig card and I try to put a picture or any other attachemnt on the card or on the main memory and I get the same results. I can browse to the file and clik on it and that’s when I get the meesage. If I use the File explorer and click on the file and chose email this file nothing happen. Same if I start the photo editor and click file, send via email. Any idea why? Thank you.
