A Cool Accessory For Your iPAQ

Tripath Technology Inc. (Nasdaq:TRPH), creators of Class-T(R) 1-bit digital audio amplifiers, is pleased to announce that Virgin Electronics has chosen Class-T audio amplifiers to drive its Boomtube EX(TM). Two TA2024s provide 40 watts of high efficiency power to the Boomtube EX’s satellite and bass drivers.

The Virgin Boomtube line features satellite speakers that conveniently twist off for great sound and true stereo separation, and twist back on for true portability. Designed to work with nearly any portable music source, the Virgin Boomtube line of portable speakers transforms personal MP3 players, CD players, or even laptop computers into a portable party.

The Virgin Boomtube EX, with its stylish, aluminum, tubular design and rechargeable battery, is the first portable speaker system to incorporate both a bass tube and twist-off speakers. Its 40 watts of system power is 10 times the closest competitor. The lithium-ion rechargeable battery in the Boomtube EX plays for approximately 10 hours on a single charge.

Class-T provides the efficiency that is necessary in a portable device. The TA2024, at an efficiency of 90% provides about twice the battery life of a traditional amplifier and eliminates the need for a bulky heat sink. These benefits come without the usual loss of sound quality that is typical of most Class-D designs.

“We are very pleased with the sound and performance of the Class-T amps,” said Joe Sipher, SVP of Marketing for Virgin Electronics. “The Tripath engineering support team was outstanding and allowed us to build a world class set of portable speakers. Best of all, Class-T can push the Boomtube EX’s volume all the way to 11.”

Virgin Electronics’ Boomtube EX will be featured as a Digital World Innovations Award winner in the February issue of Digital World (available online now and on newsstands polybagged with PC World on Jan. 18.) The 2005 Digital World Innovations Awards recognize breakthrough products that set the standard for innovation with distinguishing qualities. Digital World’s editors compared hundreds of products before narrowing the field to 15 winners. Shawn Scarlett, the Marketing Manager at Tripath, agrees with the PC World editors, adding, “It’s a fitting reward for such a well designed and down-right cool product.”

The Virgin Boomtube EX is available at Virgin Megastores nationwide and online at http://www.virgin.com/electronics.
