Meta Platforms’ services Facebook, Instagram, and Threads experienced a massive outage earlier today. The issue resulted in several users not being able to access their accounts, with similar problems extending to Meta Quest accounts too.
Accounts on Facebook faced log-in issues as users have been logged out and can’t log back in. Meanwhile, on Instagram, some users can’t refresh their feed, send direct messages, or view Reels. Issues also extend to the Threads app rendering an error message upon opening, “Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again.” WhatsApp, however, is currently operational.
Meta confirmed the problem on their status page at 10:17 AM Eastern Time, assuring that, “We’re aware of an issue affecting log-ins to Facebook. Our engineering teams are actively working toward a speedy resolution.”
Andy Stone, Head of Communications at Meta, reaffirmed the problem, stating that the company “is aware of the issues affecting our services access“, and that they are “working on it right now“. Notably, Meta experienced a similar outage in 2021 that resulted in disruptions to Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp for several hours due to configuration problems.
According to DownDetector website, reports of issues for all three Meta platforms surged, while global network trackers NetBlocks noticed the problem being widespread in multiple countries.
DownDetector also reveals other services experiencing similar issues. Users reported problems with YouTube, Google, TikTok, Discord, among other services.
