Apple releases the first beta version of iOS 18, but not everyone can download it.

Apple has launched the maiden beta versions of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, following the announcement at WWDC 2024. These preliminary operating system versions aim to support app developers in testing and optimizing their products before the full version’s release.

What’s New in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18

Key enhancements in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 include markedly extended home screen customization capabilities for iPhone and iPad. Users will enjoy greater control over icon appearance and placement, facilitating changes in their sequence and position. They can amend transparency settings and customize the Control Center menu. The standard “Messages” application also sees a revamp with improved multimedia sharing options and better group chat interactions through the RCS protocol.

Availability and Compatibility

Public beta versions for all users are set to be available in July, with the final stable release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 expected fall, as usual, after extensive testing. Full support for the new OS will be implemented on all Apple devices compatible with the previous iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 versions.

Note that the initial testing phase may experience performance and stability hiccups. Additionally, some features announced at the WWDC conference, including integration with ChatGPT, will not appear until late 2024.
