ASUS has unveiled its rendition of the Radeon RX 7900 GRE graphics card in TUF Gaming and Dual variants. Both models are equipped with a dual BIOS system and offer additional factory overclocking of the GPU.
The Radeon RX 7900 GRE was initially designed exclusively for the Chinese market. However, AMD finally decided to launch it globally. The sales of the card start today at a recommended price of $549, thus making it $100 cheaper than when it first hit the Chinese market in the summer of 2023.
The GRE suffix in the card’s name stands for Golden Rabbit Edition — a nod to the previous Chinese New Year of the Rabbit. The Radeon RX 7900 GRE employs a cut-down GPU Navi 31 XL with 80 computational units based on the RDNA 3 architecture, containing 5120 stream processors. For comparison, the Radeon RT 7900 XT uses a chip with 84 compute blocks and 5376 stream processors. The Radeon RX 7900 GRE comes with 16 gigabytes of GDDR6 video memory and a 256-bit bus.
With the new ASUS versions, the market now features 14 custom Radeon RX 7900 GRE variants. It’s noteworthy that the TUF Gaming variant was previously presented. However, the manufacturer had released a fully white-accelerator version at that time. Today’s model offers a standard grey color scheme. It appears that the Radeon RX 7900 GRE TUF Gaming borrowed its printed circuit board from the Radeon RX 7800 XT model based on the GPU Navi 32 XT.
In overclocking mode, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE TUF Gaming has a GPU frequency of up to 2052MHz (in games) and up to 2391MHz (Boost). In standard mode, the card offers frequencies of up to 1972 and 2333MHz respectively. For the Radeon RX 7900 GRE Dual model, the manufacturer has listed frequencies of 2013 (games) and 2366MHz (Boost) in “OC” mode, as well as up to 1927 and 2293MHz in standard mode. The overclocking profile for the graphics cards can be set in the proprietary ASUS GPU Tweak application.
The Radeon RX 7900 GRE TUF Gaming model is equipped with a cooling system featuring three fans, while the Dual variant, as the name suggests, sports a cooling system with two fans.
The TUF Gaming variant occupies 2.96 expansion slots in the PC case and has a length of 320mm. On the other hand, the Dual model has the thickness of 2.47 expansion slots and measures 280mm in length.
